I've been reading and researching for hours. This gem came in today. She's great...but the verdigris is not. As soon as I saw it, I scraped and wiped away what I could. It was much worse than the current pictures show (OF COURSE none of it was mentioned online.) She's overall dirty, but from what I've read, the hardware needs to come off. I found a lot of helpful posts about how to clean the brass once it's off, but getting it off...I have some tools, but it seemed like I was going to strip the little screws, so I paused. Tried to get the turnlock off...its really in there alright. I looked at all of the posts mentioning legacy by @ledobe because I read she'd rehabbed tons of Legacies. I didn't find exactly what I needed, but there was mention of an older board, which I didn't find, and a Ebay guide from 2012 or 2013, which wasn't there anymore either. My question is how do I get these suckers off? I'm not clear on what's supposed to happen on the inside of the pockets because the lining is attached, but I can feel some hardware beneath it. I've already scratched up the front part a bit trying, any advice? Is she hopeless w the verdigris? That little button on the front I'm sure isn't coming out, so I'll just have to do my best with that one. The turnlock hardware has it underneath though, I can see it. :confused1:View attachment 4200764 View attachment 4200765 View attachment 4200766 View attachment 4200767 View attachment 4200768
Just wanted to post a little update! She's not done, far from it, but I got a lot of the verdigris off. I tried to spot clean, but it wasn't working, so I ended up dunking her. I REALLY like the soaking wet color actually. While being dunked with Dawn and some vinegar, I lightly brushed at her with a toothbrush. Very improved, at least the dirt portion, but I'm not sure if she'll be the Cinderella I was hoping for lol. She lost some color, so I'm not sure how or if conditioning will help that.

I used ALL of the suggestions lol. I started with some Shout in the bad parts, I was able to make a bad ink or something stain on the bottom better. Then I gave her a bath with dawn for 20 min, quite traumatic for me, I felt like I was killing her. She gurgled and everything :wtf: I wasn't seeing results, even after some light scrubbing. Next, I tried Soilove, and thought there was a discernable difference. I got excited and hosed her down with it, really saturated the edges. I let her set for about 15 minutes, put her in a mesh bag AND a pillowcase. Used some woolite on handwash setting, warm, extra soiled. When she was done...well she was the same  except with a heavy smell of Soilove. So I put her through AGAIN, this time on delicate setting, warm, with Gain. Welp. Same. Handles are shedding (?), the metallic came off of the handles in a lot of places, but guess what? Sequins are totally fine. She's stuffed and drying because maybe, just maybe, she'll look better when she dries :confused1: I'm not getting my hopes up. So for now, I'm thinking my house purse got a nice upgrade  Thank you for your suggestions, I appreciate it!

ETA: Once she's totally dry, I'll post the before and after and see if you guys can see a difference. DD thinks I've just been looking at it for too long. Lol
I forgot to post an update on the Madison Graphic Op Art Sequin Maggie bag! My final thought is, I think it's just the color of the bag guys. I see NO difference. I'm pretty sure I spent hours cleaning a bag that wasn't really dirty to begin with  Welp. Live and learn :lol:PhotoGrid_1537854502520.jpg

Saphir Juvacuir Liquid Leather Polish 75ml (Light Brown) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EZN0GHU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_IOAQBb4D31VHM
Near perfect match for British Tan. It does not cover stains, but it’s a near cure all for faded corners or light scratches.
This product is very good. It is actually a combination of dye and conditioner, according to the Saphir website. I used black on universally faded Plaza bag with great results. I bought medium brown directly from the Saphir website that , imo, is a dead on match for BT. It did a fabulous job on a BT classic compartment tote last summer.

I bought it because of your suggestion! Good stuff!

It probably is a beige or light mauve background color, but I think that the bag looks brighter after washing and the stain on the "sequin C" at the lower left is now gone, and the before bag looks a bit grubby - nice work!

And I just feel more comfortable carrying a bag when I know that it is clean!

Wow you dunked the Vachetta with that lining? How is the drying proceesd going? Any water spotting?
Try a tiny needle to remove the vertigris around those rivets. Try not to poke the leather. Use the needle as a scoop. It will help in those small areas .

Okay so I just did something I said I would never do I picked up a white patent leather used bag.
I found it with the coupon for $18 shipped. A Francie.
Have any of you worked with any of the newer patent leather paint to try in remove stains or spots? Bleach pens on white patent?
There's a ton of information on refurbishing patent shoes on youtube, but spot painting on Patent seems a little impossible.
It hasn't come yet so I'm not sure of the extent of the stains but my first course of action will be acitone or alcohol on any thing that looks like color transfer. A general cleaning with leather CPR and maybe vigegar.
I'm kind of already regretting this purchase.

I've assumed you can't ever get stains off patent. The stains get underneath the patent coating. There is a process to remove the coating but it is very difficult and then you no longer have a patent bag. I did spot paint on a patent bag somewhat successfully but I can't remember what I used. I know nail polish didn't work. I guess I would try shiny fabric paint.

No water spotting that I can see so far, but it's early lol. The outside is looking like it's getting there being dry. The inside is still wet though...I'm not sure if I can flip the whole thing inside out, but I'll try that next. The lining was dry, but just gets damp again because the inside leather is still really damp. That's a great tip about the needle! I'll try that! And the biggest problem I can see right now is the uneven colors. I tried 3 different conditioners on the strap, and I think I liked Blackrocks best, but I'm waiting for it to really sink in there before I really commit.

A needle! That's what I used on vertigris. I couldn't remember. I said a sharp pointy thing!
