Definitely helpful for me, thanks! Do you know if these carabiner rings came in a gold/brass looking finish? The link to them on amazon did not work for me.

I called Coach the other day and they said the Coach moisturizer only not the cleaner can be used on this bag. I have one too that's tan/brass and no stripe lining. I tried the moisturizer and it possibly helped it's hard to tell.

Another question for all you rehabbers:

Do all the 2012 legacy line items have the same type of leather that can't be cleaned? I'm wondering specifically about the turnlock mini saddle bag and legacy leather Penny bags.
No, they don't have the same kind of leather. The new Willis, the duffles, and the Legacy bucket all have different types of leather. My Legacy Willis has very shiny smooth leather. I think some of the new Willises had waxed leather. The duffles have semi-smooth leather with dye that doesn't go all the way through. When the corners start showing white, I haven't found a way to fix them. The normal things I do for faded corners don't work on them. The Legacy bucket has wonderful, thick leather that holds up wonderfully. I think the two bags you are talking about probably have leather similar to the duffles. The leather isn't particularly delicate so you should be able to clean them.

I got carbiner rings like that in brass on ebay.

Here’s a hardware rehab/repair solution that might help someone. I recently bought a pre-owned New Willis that I believe may have been made for Coach Factory stores after the 70th Anniversary Limited Edition was released. (Interior of mine isn’t signature stripe, has a bullet/target stamped on creed.) The silver hardware rings for attaching straps were flaking and short strap was attached differently than 70th Anniversary version, and hung oddly. I found nearly identical round carabiner spring rings on Amazon that solved my problems. The bag looks and hangs so much better now, and if I want, I can even remove the short strap if I want, which was impossible before without actually cutting it off. One tip, if you try this...place head of the pliers, in a closed position INSIDE the original rings and then spread open plier handles to open up the rings. Also, it’s easier to remove and replace rings horizontally from the side of the bag, not vertically, over the dowel. (FYI I wouldn’t normally mess with original hardware but these flaky rings did nothing to add appeal or value to the bag IMO). Cheers fellow Coach lovers!

Here’s the link to the round carabiner rings I used. I ordered the 1.25 inch (inside diameter) size in silver but they are also available in other metal colors (bronze, gold, silver, rose gold & nickel-black) and sizes (1in, 1.25in, & 1.5in inside diameter). You may be able to find other vendors, just make sure if you do that the ring thickness will fit through the existing holes in your bag. Hope this helps! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076B7S8DL/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

@DubbW Thanks for the link and tutorial!

@whateve thanks for info about the leather! I want to moisturize and protect the legacy turnlock saddle I have and I've been toying with getting a leather Penny on eBay. I just got some Apple cleaner moisturizer and garde so hopefully those are good to use on the penny and saddle.

To dunk or not to dunk? It has a darker lining, but it needs to be reshaped and there is some surface dirt on the outside. View attachment 4125680 View attachment 4125681 Should I pull the lining out and keep it upright during dunking?
You can pretty much assume I will always say dunk. I dunked a camel Bleeker tote with a dark lining and I just assumed there would not be an issue. And there wasn’t. You want to pull out the lining because . . .?

So little story, I went to a consignment / thrift store today, and the lady asked if I was looking for anything. I said, any vintage coach bags, she showed me what she had, and then got to talking about how to "make them look better" she said cheerfully, rub them with alcohol! Then put vaseline on and let it sit. (I gave her this look) No wonder the bags in her shop all felt like sandpaper. The end.

That's the same look I would have given her too. Did you say anything or slip her the link to this thread?

:annoyed: Now that is what I call Purse abuse and what fuels me to get out there and save what I can. So sad.
