I will try almost anything, anything once. But big NO to Oxyclean.
Think of it this way. Leather is processed skin/hide for the most part. The best products would be those of a comparable pH. Just to the acidic side of neutral on the pH scale. I like Lexol cleaner.
I actually used Oxyclean on a leather bag once. The bag looked beyond hope, and I was curious what would happen. Shockingly, the bag survived and improved tremendously. It’s a bit stiff, though, but it’s a Murphy style, so I like how it holds the shape.

image.jpg Now I am taking a closer look at this bag. Put aside the enormous ink stain, I am now wondering if at some point someone attempted to even out the stains or wear on the front by applying some sort of dye or color restorer. Check out the stains above the outer pockets. And the bag does appear to be a shade darker where the pockets are on the bottom. Interesting. Stay tuned.

image.jpg image.jpg I hope no one minds that this is going to turn into sort of a semi live blog! About 5 to 7 minutes into the soaking/cleaning/scrubbing process, with my coach toothbrush, I decided to just take a paper towel and see if any of the ink would release. I really wasn’t expecting it to. I have been scrolling through old posts saying that someone had to add some acetone /alcohol to a cotton pad and apply that to get the ink to release. Much to my surprise it’s been releasing. When my timer went off for 20 minutes the water was a bit bluish. So I drained the sink and will do another 20 minutes with another dose of Lexol and see what goes on.

You might get blue coming out of that for an hour. It might lighten the stain a bit.
