Where do I start? A friend gave me this to work on/practice on. Among other insults committed to this poor case, she spilled a fish lean cuisine in it about 20 years ago. Thought I'd start with the ink stain at bottom. Also wondering if it's okay to "wash"/dunk these handles.

My handles came through fine. They were very dark from lots of use and I put Dawn directly onto them and pre-soaked for five minutes and then used a dishrag to lightly scrub them after soaking for a bit. Didn’t seem to lift the dark much but I feel like they’re cleaner, fwiw.

It's okay to dunk as long as there aren't any holes in the handles. They come out of the bath fine. It looks like there is mildew damage (the spots). I doubt that will go away.

Wow this one's going to be a bit of work. I would probably start with dawn on every mark, work it in and leave it for a few minutes. Put it in some fresh water then pour straight vinegar over it and leave it a bit. Change the water again then scrub it all over with castille soap. Afterwards some obenauf;s might help cover spots by darkening the whole bag and deepening the color. I wouldn't be too hopeful that those spots will come out at all though. It's a pretty light colored bag.

Thanks @dgphoto @whateve @Belicious The good news is she's not holding out much hope....said whatever I did would be an improvement...I've been using it to test my different conditioners on to figure out what darkens and what doesn't. Don't think I'll start this tonight. Looks like an all day/weekend kind of job!

I can't seem to find a single guide to soaking, but there's gotta be another soap to use besides dawn?

Anyways, my old bag is very stiff, like I'm popping a plastic bottle stiff, and I put cleaning on it and leather honey, but it is still stiff. Do I try soaking it again, or do I keep on lathering leather honey?

Have you dunked it at all? Like I said before, you need to dunk in order to open the pores so the conditioner will soak in. Some times the leather is too far gone to respond, and nothing you do will help.

As far as soap, I don't use Dawn. I use whatever dish soap I happen to have. Some people use castile soap and others use something make specifically for washing leather, but I don't recommend saddle soap. If you decide to use something else, try to pick something with a low ph level.

Fantastic job! What did you use for moisturizer? I have a bag that could use it. Thank you!

Just Leather CPR while they were still damp from the soaking. I love that stuff!

The bags looks fabulous, great job! I love Leather CPR as a good, general moisturizer, but if the bag is rather dry and scuffed then I find that an application of Leather Therapy Restorer and Conditioner can also be helpful. It does have a smell, but it fades with time and it is not unpleasant IMO.

And if the bag is scuffed, scratched, faded, or the color is uneven or spotted, then Black Rocks can do miracles! But you have to apply it sparingly, wipe of the excess, let it absorb, and then buff it until it shines. I use a clean, soft, horsehair shoe brush to buff my bags.

@dgphoto your brown Willis looks a million times better but if you want to improve it even more you could apply Black Rocks and then buff it to even out the color and hide more of the flaws. I would also apply a little dark brown acrylic paint or edgecoat along the edges of the strap to replace the missing edging.

Just a couple of suggestions, but overall a great job - you have given those bags a new life, congratulations!

Very timely! My next rehab will be this light colored Shoulder Brief with multiple stains (possibly food, no ink though), so I'm looking forward to trying these tips.

If it is the same bag I am thinking of then there is an FS stamp, see the pic below, near the bottom left. It's on the opposite side from the bulls-eye mark. I've rotated the auction pic to make it easier to read.

I must be blind. I still can't see it. I thought the FS was always to the right of the dash separating the two sets of numbers/letters. Not trying to argue...just curious. Note to self...make that appointment with the ophthalmologist ASAP. lol

btw, I'm going to try rehabbing this bag. Even if I can't conquer the glue, maybe I can disguise it a bit. It's not a huge investment and I do like the style of the bag.

I'm not buying but I was wondering maybe dying the suede a darker Olive green to disguise it might work. inCollage_20171010_181644525.jpg

You are mixing it up with some price tags that have the letter FS with the style number. This is a stamp put on the creed after production to indicate final sale, just like the ES for employee sale or the target outlet stamp, or the X we sometimes see.
