Cute bag! I have been doing the same searches with the same results - zip! I recently bought a light blue nylon twill bag and it really needs a bath! My bag has black leather trim and dark lining so I am very scared to dunk it but that may be the only option. Or I may throw it in the washer. I spent $25 on this bag and that is kind of pricey for my projects - but I liked it a lot! You can see pics at the links below.

Right now I am engrossed in rehabbing several british tan leather bags so I won't be working on my twill bag for awhile, but I will be interested in learning the results of your rehab efforts so please keep us updated. Apparently you are "going where no TPFer has gone before" good luck!

Oh I remember seeing that post and thinking you were such a brave lady, yet again :D I am still doing some research, but I think I've found the perfect plan - the bag came with its matching wristlet

(which I absolutely adore as well.. it has a front pocket, and is not just one compartment!) so if I'm going to have to experiment, the little one will be my guinea pig. If something goes wrong, it can at least stay inside the bag! The wristlet is in worse shape (dirtier back panel, but I only noticed because I really looked) so if a bath improves it, I'll definitely see. The bag itself really isn't all that bad.. you can tell it's been used, but not abused. The buckle's still shiny, and there are hardly any scratches! The white is starting to wear off on the lower corner piping, but that's to be expected. So excited! I'll definitely update when I get to it. I was going to work on my Patricia's Legacy (I need a bigger bag for everyday, though Willis is still doing great) but I could not find my glue, and the strap's piping kind of loose at the very end. I'd like to fix that before doing anything else.

I was wondering how long some of you ladies wait after giving a vintage, un-lined bag a bath before you apply leather moisturizer?? I waited after one was completely dried before I applied anything and the leather seemed rough and dry.

On my legacy zip I just bathed I moisturized it a couple hours after bathing it and it seems softer.

So I was wondering how long some of you wait on average???

My first couple of bags, I let them dry completely before conditioning. My second couple, I conditioned while they were damp. I found the latter two to end up softer and more supple. Also, the strap on one of the bags I let dry completely showed cracks - maybe I just didn't notice that they were cracked before? In any case, I now pretty much wait until they're damp, and not bone dry, before conditioning. I'm not sure just how "damp" one should be, but I pretty much keep towels in them while drying, and use those as my gauge. So far, I have not had to wait more than 24 hours.

You are welcome! Here are some additional pics to show that it has darkened to almost a chestnut roan color. I love the reddish undertones in it.:smile1:

O.M.G. This is AMAZING! I can't believe you scored that beauty (a NYC bag no less!) for only $29!!!!! I love the stewardess and have been on the hunt for one for quite some time. Wonderful job!!!!

Thank you! She is definitely one of my favorites. I will keep my eyes open for you and let you know if I come across another Stewardess Bag in good shape for rehab.:smile1:

You don't want to over-condition bags because it is bad for the leather and sometimes you get a nasty, dry, thick build-up of conditioner along seams and edges.

I tend to be a bit heavy-handed with conditioners and I am trying to learn that "less is better" and to give the leather time to rest between applications.

I usually apply some conditioner when the bag is still damp but not wet. If the thinner areas are drying fast and start to feel dry and rough I will apply a light application on those areas before conditioning the rest of the bag. Areas like straps, piping, corners, pull tabs, hangtags, foldovers, etc. If these areas continue to feel rough I may give them another light application in a day or two.

When I am really worried about the bag drying out too fast I will apply Leather Therapy oil while the bag is still pretty damp, to both condition the bag and slow down the drying process. Leather Therapy oil doesn't darken leather but it does have a lasting scent. It is not an unpleasant scent but it is something to keep in mind before deciding to use it.

Thank you for the tip!! Where do you buy Leather Therapy Oil?

Thank you for the tip!! Where do you buy Leather Therapy Oil?

It's called Leather Therapy Restorer and Conditioner and I get it at a local equestrian riding (tack) store. They have a big selection of leather care products. It is also available on-line at the link below. The riding store is more expensive but when you buy on-line you have to pay shipping so it's about the same, IMO, and it is convenient.

I also buy their leather laundry soap and conditioner/rinse (links also below) for washing leather bags in the washer.

I find the therapy oil (and also Lexol cleaning and conditioning wipes) will work on pebbled leather bags when you can't use a thick, opaque cream.

Yesterday was a very good day! I have long wanted a Coach Rambler's Legacy and I once bought a fake brown Rambler and then couldn't get a refund! At the Salvation Army Store yesterday I found a beautiful black and silver Rambler in great conditon for $17 and Hyacinth says that this one is genuine! :yahoo:

I have never seen the Patricia's Legacy bag IRL and was wondering if any of you rehabbers have both bags and could give me a comparison?

And I made a second surprising find at the SA yesterday, I picked up a vintage Dior cosmetic bag for 46 cents and Eminere on the Dior forum has kindly authenticated it!

I would like to use the Dior cosmetic bag for myself but it really needs cleaning. The bag is made of fabric, trimmed in leather, and is lined with coated canvas or vinyl. The inside is really dirty and the outside looks dull and has a musty, dusty odor.

I would like to give it a bath to try and get it really clean but I don't want to ruin it! There are pics of "my 46 cent find" at the links below. Does anyone have suggestions for cleaning and restoring it?

I will also ask the Dior TPFers for advice but I was thinking of using my Coach jacquard fabric cleaner on the CD bag, has anyone ever tried using this product on Dior fabric?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I have both Patricia's Legacy and the Rambler's Legacy.. I don't have pics of them together atm, but I can take them when I finally get some free time (it's been crazy!) hopefully tomorrow. Patricia's is much bigger, such that I feel like I can squeeze the Rambler's in it somehow - it is that roomy. I've been wanting a stewardess bag because of how big it seems, but according to the website, Patricia's is bigger, so, that's something to think about. I love the the Patricia's, though! I'm still working on it - trying to get some shine, but so far it's just matte, and shows a ton of scratches. Hoping it goes well!

I'm loving that Dior bag.. let us know what you do with it! I'm most curious as to how that will turn out.. I'm still hee-hawing on my striped wristlet, but mostly because I want to play with my leather bags first. :D

Thanks for the info, I didn't realize that the Patricia's Legacy bags are so large! Hyacinth posted pics and info about the Pat's bags at:

I'm really liking this Rambler! I have always been a fan of the Court Bag but this might be an even bigger favorite!

Well, I'm thinking of rewashing that BT bucket as well.. it wasn't the cheapest bag, but the way it's going, I feel like it can't get any worse :P It has a "broken in and worn shoe" look to it, so I might as well give it a shot.

My latest test run involves a Willis that starts with G13, so I guess it's an '01? Got it from Goodwill, $8

Not quite done - haven't polished the hardware yet, or dealt with edges.. and I want to see if I can get more of the fingernail scratches blended in, but it's not looking too shabby now :) I'm quite happy with this one.

Hi Iyaken, I like how it look after rehab.. By the way, what did you use to treat the faded edges/pipings to become like new? I have one bag that has faded at the corners and i don't know how to darken it to the color of my black bag. Any pointers? Or anyone who can help? thanks in advance

Hi again ladies! I'm hoping to get some advice. I purchased a black Willis for a really good price, At first glance it looks to be in absolute fantastic shape, but upon closer inspection, I can see an almost metallic sheen on top of various areas as though someone used a black permanent marker. My question is, if I gave it a bath would that be removed? If you think it' not worth trying, the seller said they would give me a full refund if I wanted to return it. I just wanted to see what you guys thought first.

^^I'm guessing probably not. If you gave it a bath and it didn't work, you wouldn't be able to return it. Permenant marker is, unfortunately, permenant :(

I suppose you're right. It probably wouldn't come out completely. I did decide to just keep it though and get a partial refund. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one that will notice anyway.
