The leather on the vintage one is thicker and nicer, but maybe only vintage lovers notice things like that. Surprisingly, when I stuffed it with paper to pack it up, it actually looked better. The wrinkles were a lot less noticeable. They both look new when side by side!!! You can slightly tell that the vintage one has softer, more broken in leather, but I have seen that difference with some of the new Legacy bags in store, where one will be softer and slouchier than another one (both new).
Mr. Picky Pants, LOL! That might just become his new nickname! To be fair to him, I have no idea how he is going to react since he doesn't know we have been scheming behind his back. Maybe when he starts his first job, he will be happy that he won't look like the new guy with the shiny new briefcase! It looks amazing! Mr. Picky Pants boyfriend better appreciate your efforts! I would love to find a briefcase to rehab for my dad. Maybe once I work my way through this box of rehab projects...
She came out great! I love it when the rehabs work so well. I rehabbed her baby sister, a dinky bag!
Thanks...she's my favorite bag (this week) LOLOL!Looks gorgeous!!!
Thanks, Ledobe and I am so much like you....directions, what directions? I will be interested in knowing how it works since I now have 4 suede bags and may want more in the future....Fiebings actually makes a suede dye. It's mostly dry now and still looks pretty good, but I can't imagine it will dry evenly or that I'll feel comfortable that the dye won't rub off on my clothes, but I had to try it.
Oh, of course I didn't follow the application directions. I'll post more info later when I see the end result, . I just couldn't resist sharing my moment of hopeful optimism.
Whateve - What a beautiful job you did! It so exciting when you see the end product!!Before I send it off, I decided to take some comparison shots between the rehabbed and the new briefcase. The new one is on the left. It stands up a little better and the handles stay up better. I think the old one might be just a tiny bit bigger. The old one had a hangtag but I removed it because I know he wouldn't want it. Isn't that always the way? The one time you wouldn't mind if the hangtag was missing.
I'm sure that he will love it. especially because of all the work his girlfriend's mom put into it! You are a thoughtful lady, Whateve (which I already knew considering all of the work you do for us on the Auth. board!).I've had this with a few bags where I think the leather got stretched from big things going in the outside pockets. I think the bag looks awesome! However, I've never rehabbed for anyone that wants something new....would make me a little nervous. Great job on the bag!
Joodlz - beautiful job! I love that you took her out for happy hour - what fun!I found this one on the LAST purse rack at my local Goodwill, buried in a sea of junk bags. I saw huge potential for rehabbing her despite what looked like mildew (or exploded make-up powder) and a sticky, melted candy substance on the inside pocket! The outside had surface scratches and the piping was very dry, but intact. For $6.99 for Coach Leatherware (and likely the original hangtag), Im in!
Hyacinth authenticated her as a Spectator City Bag #6790 from 1989-91. Before photos are here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-763164-640.html#post24506451
I brushed away the mildew/powder with a dry toothbrush. I didnt detect a typical mildew odor, so Im opting for some kind of powder instead. Who knows! Gave her a very warm soak and scrub with Dawn (removed of the melted candy right away), very long, very warm rinse and stuffed with towels to restore her shape. I used lots and lots of Leather CPR over several days, particularly on the piping which was very dry on the bottom edges. Polished the brass with Brasso and a polishing cloth. I finished the leather with Blackrocks, which virtually obliterated the surface scratches and worked wonders on the piping. A good buffing with a microfiber cloth brought back that deep, lustrous sheen that we all love!
Though some rehabs are more successful than others, a success like THIS is why I rehab!
LOLOL...couldnt resist documenting her first happy hour at my favorite pub...best looking purse in the joint!
looks interesting...now, who's gonna be the first to try it?I have a bag that is in really bad shape. The leather is so dry and brittle that parts are crumbling and cracking. I started wondering if there is a point beyond which it isn't salvageable. I googled dry brittle leather and found this article, which I thought was pretty interesting. Then I started wondering about the brand mentioned, and when I googled that, I found someone who said they liked it better than Leather CPR or Blackrocks. So now I am really curious! Apparently, it smells good too!

I'm getting old and repeating myself! I already posted this here last week - thought it was on another board.Re: Suede...a warning...Katev had used emu oil on a dark brown suede bag and it came out greast so I did on a pink bag and it came out great - deepened the leather a bit which was good because it had faded in the wash routine and it softened the leather which was great. I decided to use it again on 2 other suede bags - blue and nanother pink....I had washed them a few days before and they seemed sdry - if not 100%, maybe 90%....BIG mistake...the emu oil did not dry fully and the bags were all blotchy a week later. I had to wash the bags all over again and now a week later, stilll blotchy so will have to wash again...Lesson learned. Wait a LONG time and make sure bags are dry before applying Emu oil to them!
My dinky is dark green with tan trim.Thanks...what color is your dinky? I have 2: one tan, one ivory. They're so cute, but soooo tiny! Can't wait to hear the end of the Briefcase Saga!
Thanks...she's my favorite bag (this week) LOLOL!
A picture might help. Sometimes you can get ink out. Most of the time you can't so it is a risk. If it was a really good price, I would probably take the chance. I figure that if I couldn't remove the ink, I could touch it up with acrylic paint.Hi. I have found a parchment Sophia for sale and am contemplating. However, the seller has disclosed there is a small pen mark on the outside. I searched this clubhouse and it sounds like it is not too easy to remove if not fresh.
I can try sharing the picture...if that helps. TIA!

Thank you! I bet she won't tell him I worked on it. Which is fine because he would probably rather imagine that it just sat in someone's closet all these years rather than actually used.I'm sure that he will love it. especially because of all the work his girlfriend's mom put into it! You are a thoughtful lady, Whateve (which I already knew considering all of the work you do for us on the Auth. board!).![]()
Thanks! You shouldn't have told them it was Coach. My daughter was worried that he would think she got it because of the brand name. That is why I removed the hangtag. She asked me to look at other brands too. I told her that with at least 90% of used items, you won't find any indication of where they were made, but with Coach you would have proof it was made in the US.It really looks great! I found a similar briefcase ( it might be identical, it's been awhile since I looked at it) at Goodwill in new condition for $50 or so. I offered it to my son WHO TURNED IT DOWN, and then to my husband who also had doubts. I was shocked. What's the matter with them? They think of Coach as "designer" rather than as just quality leather goods.
