Currently have 11 bags to be authenticated. They were received at our local Humane Society thrift shop for resale.

Authenticating is a rather long process and I'm having very little luck--thanks to Coach's serial no. inconsistencies, etc.

Would love to have help, but need to post 9 more times and wait 5 more days before this forum will help.

?? Authenticating isn't that hard once you know some of the regular warning signs of a fake. You can also have multiple purses authenticated on this forum: AUTHENTICATE THIS COACH Just make sure you follow the directions in post #1. You also need photographs of 1.) the creed, 2.) the bag itself, 3.) linings, hardware, stitching, etc. Photos of the hangtags (the little "coach" dogtag like thing) aren't very useful because they're made to be removable. Hyacinth and BeenBurned are some of the most knowledgeable and responsive authenticators around!! I think you can ask for up to six purses to be authenticated at once, but just be reasonable and courteous, and they will tell you as much as they know about the bag.

I would suggest you put the photos online in a free online album like Photobucket.com or Flikr. If you're not sure how to insert a photo from an online album, just ask. Coachies are very friendly. :D

Sadly I tried to rehab a bag and I think I've put too much woolite when I was cleaning it. Therefore I had to continue to wash and rinse a few times before all the suds were gone. I think because I "over washed" it, the creed is barely visible. Is that typical of leather when you've "soaked" it in water for too long? I'm glad I got it authenticated prior to rehabilitating it, but I'm a little sad that the creed is barely visible now. :(

Hi,

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not, but I really do need to authenticate 11 Coach bags that were donated to our local Humane Society thrift shop for resale. I have not listed them, as I want to know before I list.

So, I hope you will allow me to post a few pictures here. Keep in mind they are the very best I have been able to get at this time as some items are very difficult to photograph (Creeds, for example).

Hope you will patient with me as I try to do a good deed for our 4-legged doggie and kitty friends.

Thanks.

Item Name (if you know it): do not know
Link (if available): none
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)

Hope this works.

Thanks.

This thread won't be as much help to you although I can "generally" tell that the bags you have look pretty awesome! I love vintage bags. Go to the Authenticate This forum though, so that the right authenticators can help you.

First, what kind of bag is it, and is the creed a pressed creed or a printed one (like in some of the newer Poppy bags)? Is it still damp? Some of the vintage leather bags have barely visible pressed creeds, but if yours is still damp from the washings, it may come back when it dries out. Can you upload a pic so we can see it?

Hi MagicMargie - yes, the photos worked. All those purses look good, but I'm not an authenticator. Here are a couple of things you can do before you post in the Authentication thread: 1.) proof read the creeds -- look for misspelled words, 2.) search the whole forum for those creed #s -- if they are common fake creed #s, the posts will pop up during that search, and 3.) weed out the blurry photos you have -- you took multiples, and you have some good ones, so once you've done those other prep tasks, you can go through the photos. If you use a digital camera, you might want to try the macro setting (the little flower setting) to get better closeups. You've done a good job of taking photos of what they need, but like I said before: the hangtags photos aren't very useful since they are removable; anybody can buy a hangtag for a real Coach and put it on a fake. It's good to keep photos of the hangtags for YOUR records, but the authenticators don't need it.

Are you also going to fix them before you list them? They all look like they're in decent condition with a little minor wear.

My ebay purchase has arrived and I am quite pleased with it. I posted it in the authenticate forum and was told it is authentic. I found it with only three minutes left on the auction and didn't have time to find out for sure but it looked good to me so I took a chance and bid the 40.00. Needless to say I am very glad I did good.

It seems to be in very good shape for a bag from 1998, it does not have any bad smells, the inside is remarkably clean. I had expected some pen, make up, or something somewhere but there is nothing on the inside or out.

I need advice as far as what to put on the leather. It's nice and soft but I thought if there was anything else I could do to help it our or protect it. This is my first used Coach and I gotta say I just love these older leather bags.

Someone gave me a tip on polishing the brass and I will have to go back and revisit that thread but if anyone else has a suggestion I would appreciate it!

Thanks so much for your response; very helpful. I have spent numerous hours researching and have found so many conflicting statements!! So I am looking forward to seeing responses.

Getting good pics of the creeds is a real problem because of their location in places that don't bend much to give a good angle. But I'll keep trying.

I have used the macro feature on what is supposed to be a decent camera but still do not get the image I want.

Thanks so much for your help.

 Nice bag! You can try any of the conditioner brands mentioned in this thread: Apple conditioner, Leather CPR, BlackRock, or Leather Honey. You can just google those brands, and I think you can find them on eBay or Amazon too. Good luck and congrats!
