Ok so here is a picture of her. It doesn't even look gray to me :pout: I really hope there's a way to fix her!! I really love the leather of the old legacy bags. I have the Leigh, Ergo and this one and the leather honestly does not compare to the bags that are made now.

These bags were made to develop an aged patina so I don't know how successful you will be in restoring it. Personally, I would try something less drastic than dunking first, like using a leather cleaner/conditioner like blackrocks. The darkening of vachetta leather is usually permanent, I think. The blackrocks might darken it everywhere, making the color more even.

^ I will try the leather cleaner to see if it works. But I went to a leather specialist and he said the only solution is to dye it which I wan't fond of. Do you think this bag is worth anything as is? I may just sell it on ebay or something. I haven't used it in like a year because of it's appearance so it doesn't serve me much purpose. :confused1: I have tried to wear it out and I honestly feel like everyone is starring at my dirty bag!! I just can't! LOL I am ok though cuz I did get a good 5 years of use out of the bag! So it's not too painful for me. LOL

Beautiful bag! If it were my bag I would try cleaning her first with Lexol leather cleaner and then conditioning her with a neutral conditioner like lexol, apple or leather CPR, and see how she looks. If the color is still muddy and uneven then I would try blackrocks as Whateve has suggested to try and deepen and even out the color. Do not attempt to polish the hardware as it is supposed to have an "antique look" but you probably already know that.

But before I would do anything, I would PM Coffee&Coach for advice. She has a lot of expertise with rehabbing leather including legacy vachetta leather. Good luck!

Legacy bags are popular on ebay so I would think that even in the current condition, you might be able to get $200 or more for it. This one sold for $525: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...yZBH6nI2s3VJU70TX9Ul4%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

I'm not 100% sure, but it seems to me that when I used BlackRocks on my Legacy Pond shoulder bag, that it darkened the leather-but the result was the the "brown" leather showed through the blue dye and made the spot I tested appear more yellow.

It could have been my imagination, but I would test Black Rocks before I used it on another colored Legacy bag. It would be no problem (for me, anyway) on a whiskey bag.

It's hard to tell from the picture but that looks like normal aging and burnishing of the leather in that picture. I kind of like it! :)

Good to know, I have never rehabbed a legacy vachetta bag.

What a great bag!! I like the "vintage" look but I fully know what you mean by the " dirty bag stare" hahaha
This post is in great timing too (for me) cause I just happened upon a- Legacy that has a funny smell to the leather...I'm it sure what the old owner did to it and I know I have smelt this smell before but can't pin point it...I knew I remembered special "cleaning tips" for the vachetta, I may just have to air it out and hope it fades...

If I could get my hands on this style of bag at an affordable price I'd probably choose to re-dye it. Which would mean not putting a lot of heavy conditioners on it before hand but if you choose that route the cobbler doing the work could better advise you. But if you do choose to sell it, you'll be able to find a lot of interest since this bag is highly desirable. Good luck!! Jessica

So, a couple weeks ago I posted about this 07 Hamilton hobo I found with 3 stubborn stains on the front smack dab in the middle of the bag...They stick out like a sore thumb! here is the link to that comment so you can refer to photos...

since then I have tried warm soapy water on a soft rag, no luck
then I tried Apple Cleaner with a Q-Tip, then rag a couple "easy" attempts, no luck
THEN I gave her a bath, she soaked for about 4 hours, turning and scrubbing about every 30min or so, no luck
while she was drying I tried some spot cleaning while she was a tad damp (I read somewhere that could help) I did that small spot clean about 4 times, NO LUCK!!! (are you getting the picture?) :pout::pullhair:
Once my beautiful yet stubborn bag was dry, and the stains hadn't budged I thought...ok, Ill condition it to try and "blend"....NO FREAKIN' LUCK!!!
These unknow pain in by booty stains will be the death of me!!!! ANY ADVISE?!!!!! I would post new photos but it would be pointless since the bag looks the same as it did 4 days ago when I started this thorough cleaning

You could try touching up the area with acryllic paint to try and blend in and camouflage the spots. But since they are darker than the original color of the bag it might not work too well. Blackrocks will darken the bag a little bit and that might help.

It may be a job for a professional. I usually prefer to do the rehabs myself, because it is cheaper and I like doing it, but sometimes the problem is beyond my skills.

I recently picked up a brown patricia's legacy. The bag had a white spot on the front that had taken off the finish. I was planning to wash, condition, and touch up the area with acrylic paint and hope for the best - and that may have worked well.

But I had to take the bag to the cobbler anyway because it also had a tear. When I was dropping it off I asked about the spot. I was afraid that he was going to say "dye the entire bag!" and I wasn't interested in doing that. Instead he said that he could "spot treat and dye" just that area to remove the damage.

I decided to let him do it and I am glad that I did, it looks great now! I haven't rehabbed the bag yet so I haven't revealed it, but here are before and after pics of the spot. I hope that the damaged area will be even less visible after I clean and condition her.

If you do take it to a professional be sure tell him that you have conditioned it already.

Good luck!

Hi all!
I picked this up at an estate sale this morning. It's a Carryall Satchel, #12680. .... Sateen material. Can I dunk this type of bag? She really needs to be cleaned! How would you do it?

I had this bag in brown. I gave it to my MIL. I wouldn't dunk it, and I usually dunk a lot. First I would try a spray cleaner that doesn't need rinsing. If that didn't work than I would wet the dirty areas and use small amounts of dish soap, and then use a damp cloth to remove the soap.

What kind of spray cleaner? This is my first attempt at cleaning a non-leather bag, thanks!! ")

I use some cleaners I got from the dollar store. One is called "Brillo all purpose cleaner" and the other is called "E-Z Floral all purpose cleaner". The key I think is to get one that says "all purpose" on the label. These are the same cleaners I use to clean my kitchen counters. You just don't want one that has bleach or some other harsh cleaner in it. I have used oxyclean laundry stain remover but I don't like to use it much because it requires rinsing.
