That's really interesting. Again, I have no ideas, and it probably wouldn't bother me a whole awful lot...just makes me wonder how it happened. I'm envisioning it filled with stolen cash and that's what stretched it out. Maybe there were gold coins on one side that absorbed a lot of heat in the trunk of a stolen car and that's what stretched out the leather.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a dark purple city bag on Ebay in the last week or so. It's not on my wish list, so I didn't watch it at all. I don't think it was called a city bag either, but I'm pretty sure it was.

Last night I was searching the authenticate thread for Willis, and came across a picture of HYACINTH'S AUBERGINE WILLIS> (which I can't find today to save my life) and this reference to the elusive, rare aubergine City Bag.

Someon needs to snatch that baby up!

It looks heaps better, and is a very cool bag!

I dunked and hit the bad side with the hairdryer, then conditioned and did more drying. I don't know if it helped that much with the texture but the color is better - isn't that odd? I could actually see it lighten as it dried. I decided that this bag has cellulite - that is what the leather looks like to me. I wonder if there is anything else I can try. I am happy with it now but if there is a way to make it even better, I would be willing to try. The first pic is what it looked like yesterday, the second is today's after the hairdryer.

I saw that one today but I don't think I saved it in my watch list. I don't need another city bag.

I'm 100% sure that is what happened. I don't know why they didn't leave any gold coins inside for me.

Thanks. This bag is growing on me. I got it at a great price but then it was so smoky that I couldn't stand to even look at it. I worked so hard just trying to get rid of the smoke smell, alternating between hanging it outside, immersing it in baking soda, rubbing with alcohol, draping it over air freshener, etc. for several months. I didn't want to bathe it until the smell was mostly gone. Now it is still there but very faint - I think it will wear off with time. It is amazing to me that the red is still so vibrant after over 30 years.

Hey guys. I am thinking about trying to find a bag to rehab, I really like the saddle cross body bags but still looking on the bay for the perfect one. Have seen a few other styles that are nice. when I havent spent my whole bag budget for month at once I will purchase. Is there one piece of advice that should be concidered before even purchasing a bag, besides having it authenticated .

I am part way through reviving this 1996 Station bag...I found it at the Goodwill for $6 and HAD to have it, after seeing all the Miracles you ladies pull off I thought I could bring this beauty back to life...She is finally dry from her bath but I ordered conditioner off the bay last week and it still isnt here so...here is progress so far...

This First link is Pre-Bath...There are only 2 very horrible stains on the exterior, and the flap is all wrinkled and abused (still trying to figure out how to remedy this)
Here is the brass that I am still trying to figure out HOW to bring it back to life
Last are 2 After Bath pics...The stains came out!! WooHoo I am still amazed at what a bath will do for these classic bags!
My last step will be to find a cobbler here in our small town to fix the handle..The previous owner tried to fix it with some blue thread LOL at least she loved the bag enough to try that huh!!! Anyhow, more pics to come as she progresses...

Darker colors are easier to rehab. Lighter colored bags often have a dingy look to them even if there aren't a lot of stains. Try to avoid bags where the piping is damaged, although that can be fixed usually. Ink stains are really hard to get rid of.

looks like you've been bitten by the refurb bug!! Shes looking great so far! The brass, though a p.i.t.a. to deal with sometimes, will be so pretty with a few polishing sessions!. I've just attempted my first turnlock REMOVAL to clean the brass away from the purse because I am horrible about getting the white brass cleaning solution on the leather!! It's a learning curve to remove the brass but I'm glad I practiced on what turned out to be the FAKE Taft...(still not over my sadness over that one).

There is a body bag the same as yours on Etsy at the moment (not my auction). What a surprise to see another!

Thanks! It didn't look like that when I got it! It was dirty, smelled of mildew, had a crease across the middle, and the stitching on the strap had separated on one side; but she rehabbed nicely!

I should stop by the 50cent bin of bags at the SA to practice on because I would be heart broken if I ruined something wonderful!
I have FULLY caught the bug! My husband is supportive (since I resell most of what I buy) but he keeps saying I am obsessed...How can I not be?! Making something beautiful again that was thrown away by someone!
I get a great deal of satisfaction out of hunting and rehabbing :) thanks for the advise Jessi!!! And the kudos :graucho:

can you post photos? that Vintage looks isn't appealing to everyone. I happen to love it, but if it is truly dirty then several on here have washed their vachetta with mixed results. I am sure they will pipe in on it. Photos do help us a lot though if you have areas on that bag you'd like us to focus on.

Ok so here is a picture of her. It doesn't even look gray to me :pout: I really hope there's a way to fix her!! I really love the leather of the old legacy bags. I have the Leigh, Ergo and this one and the leather honestly does not compare to the bags that are made now.
