I just got a coach to rehab. I am going to give it a bath. Two questions do I let it dry completely then start to condition it and should the water be cold or warm.
Thanks in advance!

Ps. This is my first rehab.

I start with warm water and Dawn. How bad a shape is she in? Sometimes only one wash, sometimes more if shoe polish or something nasty has been applied. If the leather is in good shape, stuff her with towels to retain or get her shape back. If leather is in bad shape, start conditioning when she is 3/4 dry.

Wow! $20 and that gorgeous colour, you are very lucky! Can't wait to see final pictures. I am very envious!

Thanks very much. I just got home from work and gave her a wash. The water was sure black. I have her stuffed with towels to dry. I closed the flap.....is that ok? At first I thought maybe I should leave it open to dry but then I thought I need to make sure the flap dries flat so not sure which is right! Talk about flying by the seat of my pants!!!!
If anyone has any other words of wisdom for me feel free!!!

A stewardess for $20, wow! What color is she? In the bath she looks british tan or mahagony.

I usually leave the flap open while it is drying. The information at the links below may be off assistance, good luck!

I think it depends on your drying area: hanging or laying, etc. I stuff with towels and try to hang the bags in such as way as to put as little "bend" in the flap as possible. I have a handy 3 part towel rack that allows me to hang the bag by its brass rings or whatever the handle is attached to on the purse using large untwisted paper clips, at a lower part of the towel rack and then use a large paper clip attached to the turn lock closure if there is one, to keep the flap straight up and down as it dries...let me see if I can post a photo of what I am talking about tomorrow. Otherwise, it's probably ok to just leave it open once the initial heavy wetness has gone away from the towels being used, etc.

here's an example (it's a bag I have yet to wash, but had verdigris to remove..just wanted you to see the way I hang it when possible, or a variation there of). The flap/paperclip area is not bearing any of the bag's weight since the side hooks are holding the purse up. It's just keeping it straight only.

Heavy duty paper clips make great, cheap hooks. I hang things up by the hardware whenever possible to keep from making dents or stretching the leather unevenly. I dry the flap straight as possible at first, and eventually when working conditioner into the almost dry bag, I'll let the newly moisturized flap bend open to fully dry her.
