Coach Raising Prices

Well, if they up the quality slightly and don't devalue the bags/brands by letting people buy the same bags or very similar in outlets easily, could be first step into more premier direction.

But the amount of buyers willing to pay for $1000+ bags are decreasing. Perhaps Coach will release many bags ranging from $600-1200 and become the middle tier champion. No reason why they can't produce factory designs/quality bags but can't be similar.

I hope that coach doesnt end up like mulberry. Mulberry was beloved because it offered quality bags at affordable prices. Then, they hired this french dud from hermes who increased the price astronomically and alienated mulberry 's core customers. UK newsapers pointed out hat mulberry got too big for its boots. Now, mulberry is making losses and going to decrease prices after damaging the brand.

SA was telling me this weekend how people keep coming in looking for the signature C print on bags and they have so little to offer them.

I personally, don't like the monogram but I don't want the brand to fizzle majorly. If they are going to raise prices, I hope they can find a balance to keep those that want the signature print and more whimsy and then the newer fans that maybe were drawn to the borough around, even if they raise prices and do less with outlet and PCE.

They already closed the fp store in my mall.. Ps it was the only fp in the whole state. They're opening an mk boutique in it's place.

The fp store that I have been going to for years closed last Saturday. I am very sad about this. Sad for me bacause the sales associates knew me very well and always gave me excellent service, and the location was close by and very easy for me to pop by just to take a look at the merchandise. I am also sad for the wonderful ladies who worked at that store who are out of a job and medical benefits. Very sad....

My FP store says they won't be carrying signature bags anymore. They are not my favorite, preferring leather bags, but I've picked up a couple that I thought were very nicely done.

So I guess all signature bags will be from the outlet? Plus maybe department store exclusives?

I can see the signature style bags and the more basic leather bags being department store exclusives. The Poppy Perri hippie that was released awhile back may have been a bit of a test run for that. Then the more expensive, detailed leather bags will be in the boutiques. Then MFF will be a whole other animal.
I for one doubt I will be buying any FP anytime soon. The styles don't really appeal, and the prices definitely don't work for me. I won't spend $500+ on a bag. No matter who makes it. It's just not worth it to me. We'll see where things sit in a year or so.

I think it's time to sell my stock.

Seriously, Coach needs to learn from Mulberry's missteps in this direction...they took a popular British brand, raised the prices so that the majority couldn't--or wouldn't--pay that much for the same bag--and alienated a large percentage of its loyal customers. The CEO was ousted and the company's sales tanked; Bruno Guillon should serve as a warning to Coach's executive team.

From the Telegraph in March: Bruno Guillon joined Mulberry from Hermes two years ago but has overseen three profit warnings in the last 18 months that have wiped hundreds of millions of pounds off its share price.

I can't believe Coach thinks this is a good idea. They won't have my business.

Am I remembering right or wrong that they recently(as in the past 3-5 yrs) had to file Ch 7 bankruptcy protection? I know it happened to a major designer , but can't recall if it was MB.....

Interesting. You've never seen it, so you have no idea the quality it may be.... it looks anything but basic to me.....and probably the only Coach bags you'll get in the future will be mff. Good luck with that.

As a long time member of this forum, I'm taken back by this post. It's downright hostile. Sorry if my attitude isn't one of a "fun Coach lover" here, but you seem to have jumped to a conclusion here while trying to highlight your perception of someone jumping to a conclusion. On this forum, good luck with that.

It's not hostile at all. It's my opinion that I'm tired of being on the Coach forum and reading all the negative crap about Coach. People saying they won't pay those prices for the fall line.... not good enough quality..... they don't the prices and haven't seen the bags or the quality. Debbie downers. Big time. Old. My opinion. If you don't share it or like that's your choice....doesn't change mine.

I think much remains to be seen on this. I recall Coach doing something like this in the 2006-7 time range. They produced some very, very expensive bags. My guess is they still have them :)

Hard to imagine they would be dumb enuf to raise all the prices and just strand all the customers out in the cold. Really, it wouldn't work and it seems obvious to us and hopefully obvious to them.

So I remain optimistic they will provide good looking bags at prices we can pay.
