Coach Is Closing 70 Full Price Stores

This is interesting news, I wonder how many of the FPs in my area will close, if any. One thing that always bugs me is that the FP at the Mall of America doesn't seem to get any special treatment. Maybe they will actually try and do something with this store now. There are so many international visitors to the Mall that I don't understand why Coach doesn't do anything with that store, it doesn't stand out at all compared to the other FP in this market.

That is definitely one store that should be upgraded from my knowledge; I know they have stated that there is a listing of FP stores that are going to be eligible. Hopefully it will be on the list for the reasons you stated.

It's been recently upgraded to a flagship, so they will get more merchandise; however, not sure if they're going to change the layout or anything.

I was in Coach today and the Swagger caught my eye. This bag definitely seems to have quality and thought behind it. Not sure I want to drop $495 for it though, so I walked away and decided to sleep on it. It's in the back of my mind, I do think it's a nice bag. I feel like Coach has been elevated to some extent since Stuart Weitzman came on board. That is his name, right? The leather seems to have a better feel and overall quality to it. I've also noticed some of the zippers have been upgraded. For example, with some wallets you actually have a gold or silver hardware zipper instead of the plastic/nylon type ones. The jewelry has better selections too with more sterling silver.

I noticed in this thread several of you are saying that the leather has gone downhill and the quality isn't there. Are you referring to the recent bags and wallets that have been coming out the past few months since they've had a new designer? If so, I'm interested in knowing why you feel that way. Some people are saying the total opposite. I feel like the line has gotten better, but I definitely like hearing the differing opinions and critiques. I still feel like Coach has more work to do though before being called "upscale". But I think the potential is there if they make the right decisions.

What do you ladies thing of the Swagger btw, good quality?

Stuart Vevers is the current artistic director; Coach is buying the brand Stuart Weitzman sometime this year. They're completely different things. I tried the Smythe bag when it first came out, and just can't get over how thin the leather is; and they're making more bags in Saffiano, which I think is a cost-cutting measure. Not many bags have that thick, luscious leather anymore. Then came the Rhyder, I purchased the red nubuck and the blue pebbled, and the seam was coming undone on the red (at the handles) within four uses, so you can see the white filling underneath. To me, that's not a sign of quality. So even though the bag may feel great at first, I can't be sure if it's going to hold up; had it not been for Coach's great customer service, I would have been stuck with something that just doesn't work, for quite a good chunk of money since they didn't allow PCE's then.

Style-wise, the Swagger is not for me, nor the newly released limited edition Baseman items, but that's more a matter of taste.

I definitely heard complaints about the Rhyder bag, so I'm not surprised. I like my Bleeker that I just bought on ebay.;) What a steal!

MK, Kate Spade, and plenty of others :p I just think if Coach could get back to its roots it could be made in the US, high end, and luxurious all while maintaining good quality and being the symbol of luxury it once was.
take a look at roots, lol well made, made in canada. And cheaper than what coach wants for some of their stuff with a similar style

All signage removed and windows covered at the FP store in Palm Desert on El Paseo. I don't buy much Coach anymore but I hate to see an empty storefront.

I'm sure they couldn't compete with Cabazon outlets and Macy's plus El Paseo rents are ridiculous.

Oh wait!!! I think I found a Motive for closing the full price stores. It makes FP items more desirable because they're harder to find. But I wish they would brand the factory items clearly as being from Factory to raise the demand for FP items instead of factory items...

I don't think by having fewer stores would make them more desirable. They're most likely closing the supposedly under-performing FP stores. And to brand the factory items clearly factory, in my mind would just backfire, to the result of outlets losing sales too. No one wants to other to know where they got the bags from/whether the're cheaper versions, and if Coach has to separate the two, they should call it something else. Branding them Factory is not going to help anything. In all seriousness, there are lots of examples to look at (Lauren by Ralph Lauren, Marc by Marc Jacobs, See by Chloe, etc.), and Coach should really follow those examples.

BAM!!! Our one and only full price store in our largest mall closed yesterday. I'm sad to hear it but not surprised. It was just a few doors down from Dillards and Macy's wasn't much further away. It had been open for just under ten years.

We have one outlet...and the manager there told me they already have 40 boxes of bags to unpack and start putting out. OMG, I'm going to be running back and forth a couple of times a week. She said it will take several months to unpack and display the bags and accessories.

Do they need help? I think a few of us could unpack the bags in an hour or so

Oh, dream job there to be able to poke at all the bags lol
