Coach Is Closing 70 Full Price Stores

If department stores can still include Coach in their Friends and Family sales, then a lot of people will just focus on shopping in those locations versus at Coach directly. I don't know many people that would wait around for a semi annual sale that *might* have the bag they want, when they can just go buy what they want on sale at one of many department stores.

....

Case in point. I live near Copley Square in Boston. I buy my Coach bags from Lord & Taylor which is literally steps away from the Official Coach boutique in the Copley Square Mall. I actually have never once bought anything, except for Coach cleaning products, from the Coach store. The prices are always better at L&T. Coach is not included in the usual F&F discounts (which are basically available 365 days a year now), but they are once in a while, but the handbags (and shoes) frequently have sale prices.

I worked at Coach not too long ago, unfortunately the store I worked at was one that closed. The other one near me is too far to justify travelling to for work. Sucks, it's a good company to work for. Although I like Michael Kors, I prefer Coach, always did.

I'm still unable to find the list of the original 70 stores that were to be closed...... keeping up with this thread, it sounds like there are many more that were unexpected. It will be interesting to follow Coach this year - and see if this new CEO can turn it around.... or destroy them.

I was just in Coach today and a manager told me that the company is doing a lot of reorganizing or so to speak. It sounded like there is a lot going on. I'm wondering if the company is slowly going under and their trying to save the brand with a new designer, etc. Is this possibly the beginning of the end?

They announced some major changes and said that they expected revenue to drop during this period. I think they expect it'll be a couple of years before it turns around.

From what I've been told by SA's at my local store, they are trying to get the brand back to where it was before. The last several years have been about pumping out as many products as possible. Quantity, not quality. Everyone and their sister has a Coach bag, so it lost it's prestige. They lost a lot of customers because the brand lost it's luster. They took a huge hit in market share from competition like Michael Kors & Kate Spade. They are now trying to get back to producing better quality products. More classic styles, better materials, harder to get limited editions, etc... Less sale sale sale (coupons, PCE events).

Some of this makes complete sense to me. But I think they've gone more trendy than classic with the styles.

I just hope i don't lose mine with the crazy amount of traffic it gets. If it gets too expensive then they'll lose even more market share. It's not about prestige. LV is prestige and i see more lvs than i do coach. It's about quality and giving people good bang for their buck. Good quality for the price you pay. That's why they are so popular lol. Coach got too successful and conquered the market. Besides which coach goes the road lv does and you'll see more counterfiet coach bags in the market like you do lv. These days when you see lv, you go is that real or fake? Coach? Not really. Affordable entry level lines prevents a lot of the counterfeiting.

I think part of the problem coach has right now is the amount of competition. In 2008-2011 which I consider there last big market domination, they really didn't have much competition. MK and Tory burch weren't really around or well known, kate spade wasn't that big, I never remember my friends or I caring about KS then, and dooney was way too "old lady" for us. Plus the styles and quality of coach were on point then.

That's probably why lol. But they should stick to what works. Quality and style. It's what kept bay going for so long after countless companies that were started around the same time and gone kaput. Don't be like a Target Canada. Give people crap quality while charging higher prices. The economy still hasn't recovered yet, so coach should still stick to a lower price point.Or at least offer an entry level line but good quality leather that is so typical of coach. Their quality isn't that good lately or so I've heard. If i'm going to be spending that much money, I expect it to last. If not I can get a cheapie bag from target and be done with it.

These days for the same price Coach wants, I can get the same item from roots and it's made in Canada supporting North American manufacturers not Chinese manufacturers

In my personal opinion it seems that right after the Boroughs the quality started going down the hill and the prices started to go way up and that is around the time that I started to dislike the quality of the leather, especially disliked the new lining:( and I was looking forward to some of those new styles and colors based on the preview pictures. Can't appreciate the direction Coach is going right now, I find myself longing for the quality they are famous for and surprisingly for a more classic look, they are also famous for...the only thing that still has my attention is the special collaborations they have been doing lately ( got some snoopy items and now am thinking about the Baseman stuff) just the fobs though, the bags are not for me, would of loved a standard classic tote, like a taxi tote, with Buster, would of even overlooked that lining...By the way I don't recall ever seeing such high prices on fobs from Coach before, definitely do not like that :)
