Don't think too hard!!! Pretty sure we can just jump to the conclusion that Coach is a hot mess in terms of their policies and customer info. As someone with a background in marketing, it still surprised me that they would not pull together some TPF members for a focus group. All this free feedback from passionate Coach fans, and none of this feedback is ever leveraged. Mind-boggling really!

Yes, the way Coach does its PCE and special events for existing loyal customers makes no sense because so many loyal customers are left out. I think it's a mistake to take it personally...it isn't personal, they have just been inept at effective marketing and promotions, that's all.

I agree completely!! I don't take it personally, I just see a missed opportunity. Now this is from a business perspective, not necessarily a buying perspective! :-)

I am cracking UP
TWO MORE DAYS my friend two my days - been looking at the places you sent me - YUMMMMMMY!!!!!!! We thinking about taking the train bc I have ROAD RAGE and it aint pretty

coach should also keep with the pce formula and don't do semi annual sales. Or maybe a loyalty card thingy that only local citzens of north america can get access to and then those people get to buy stuff at the discounted rate. And tourists that fly over just to buy coach stuff because it's cheaper over here. Then coach can get their cake and eat it too. Doesn't piss off the local population but also gets the most money out of those who buy a plane ticket just to shop at coach's na stores. Everytime we get the semi annual sales, there's never any good stuff if i take my time. I'd have to shell out $10 shipping fee if the item I want isn't in stock by the time I get there. That's why i prefer pces.

We could add to a list of things they did to lose customers.

1. Did away with catalogues.

I don't think LV does print catalogues anymore either. I had one of their catalogues, and it was a nice reference to have without having to log onto a website. I didn't mind paying the fee to get it either. I would totally pay for a catalogue subscription from any of my favorite luxury brands. I wish we had those brand "mooks" that you see on the Japanese market.

A little something on "mooks" for those unfamiliar:

they don't!! :nogood: i still have one from years ago (2003) that i keep for reference, too! it was $10 and totally worth it!

I would consider buying full price only if I thought the bag would sell out or was a classic that I would have for a long time. However, for most of my purses, I would rather wait and buy 2 either on FOS or the semi-annual sale or the outlet even if off season.

What was wrong with the old model anyway? Seems like Coach expanded too much too fast and lost sight of their bottom line. And I really liked my local store smaller better, now it just feels empty any time but on the week-end.

I totally agree with you. The only way I can foresee myself dropping $500+ on these new designs is if I can be assured that they won't show up in mass quantities at the outlet/FOS for 50% off or more within a few weeks. I love shopping on sale and I'm happy to wait for things to be marked down.

I'm very interested in the business strategy discussions around Coach. Completely agree that there's a few issues at hand:

1. They went from owning the mid-range market to having fierce competition. Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Longchamp, the list goes on and on...

2. Distribution channel strategy is messy. FP / department stores / outlets / online, plus TJMaxx type shops. I agree with many who have posted in this thread that Coach's customers have learned not to pay full price

3. Brand perception has weakened significantly over the last decade. Coach hasn't done itself any favors with the proliferation of Signature C's and Poppy purses. Lots of people on TPF have posted that they receive comments along the lines of "that's a Coach?!" when carrying a simpler leather bag. Not to mention that the company moved production over to China, yuck

Personally I think Coach is facing an uphill battle to get its brand back on track

I do think for many contemporary brands you will see big price increases similar to the luxury brands. Considering that a canvas LV Speedy is nearly $1k now, I can see why some of the contemporary brands are going after the $1k price point with leather

But I agree wholeheartedly with the CNBC article that stated "The problem is that we do not expect the more luxury customer will be as interested in Coach as Coach is in them" - I also think that Coach's core customers are their core customers bc they don't spend $1k per bag so I'll be interested to hear how well or poorly the new lines sell

With that said the only Coach I've bought this year were wristlets for my bridesmaids. $29/each at the outlet vs. approx $75/each FP

Oddly enough, my eye is veering more toward Michael Kohrs bags and I never was a big fan. I was trying on some models in the MK outlet store the other day and was quite impressed. I haven't set foot in a FP Coach store since they did away with the PCE's; it was the thing that brought me in in the past.
