I've been stalking the Coach website in hopes of snagging a 48. I checked yesterday both Merlot & Black were in stock, so I grabbed a Merlot. I'm excited to get it! She will join my 40 in Honey. 
My job requires a lot of travel and the 40 just does not accommodate my 15" MacBook Air, so I am hoping the 48 will work. I've enjoyed seeing all of your pictures.

I caved and ordered the 48 in black. Black was the only color available today. I too lug a ton of stuff back and forth to work and switch between a couple of Coach field tote 40's or my LV GM on the go. I never hit the buy on the 40 because when I went to the store to look at it, I felt it was too small for my needs for a work bag. I know the 48 is larger than both the field tote and the On The Go so I am hoping it will work out.

My 48 came in and it is large and in charge. I’m not sure about it. I’m going to order the 40 and then decide…
Mine arrived last Friday. It is definitely large, but I love it. The Merlot is even prettier in person and it will accommodate all of my work stuff for travel. It's a keeper!
Currently using the Maple 40 with a guitar strap.I caved this morning, when the Dark Navy Empire 40 bag re-appeared online. I had been too slow to order the same bag in the navy which suddenly appeared online, for a single day, last week. As I have only seen the maple color in person (and it is a wonderful shade of brown to my eyes), and as my nearest Coach store closed last year, I took the time to watch many online Empire 40 unboxing/review videos, to get a feeling for which color would work best for me. As a "winter" in coloring, I knew that black or dark navy would work best for me. Then, I realized that I have so many black bags of all shapes and sizes, as I wear them the most by far. Soooo, navy won out this time. A Dark Navy Empire 40 will be something unique for me in this larger scale.
I returned my 48 even though my 40 hasn't come in yet. It was just too big for everyday for me.

I ordered an Empire 40, in all honesty, so I could carry around a paperback novel (or even a hardcover novel) in addition to my usual stuff: keys, full size wallet, sunglasses in sunglass holder, phone, metal wallet, and on occasions, a checkbook, small hairbrush, and lipstick/lip liner, too. My regular-sized Rogues just didn't have enough space in them to carry a book, and I have truly not liked having to carry a book, separately, in my hands, whenever I go anywhere I would like to pass the time reading a book. Since many Coach lovers have stated they can fit a small laptop computer inside of a 40 along with a decently sized makeup bag, I would hope that I can fit a single novel inside of the bag. We shall see, when it arrives.
Good decision, but if you’re like me there’s still a lingering feeling of disappointment the 48 didn’t work. What color 40 did you chose?
