Oh goodness no worries, it was a GOOD fake. If I hadn't been able to pull out a few other Venetias to compare, I'm not sure I would have figured it out. My first clue was the weight seeming slightly off and the leather just felt different, enough to give me pause to really go over it with a fine tooth comb. On very close inspection I realized the zipper pulls, while identical to the ones on my other bags, all had the MJ name on the wrong side, facing the wrong way. The leather on the strap for the buckle was thinner and less rigid. The inner zipper opened in the opposite direction, on the inner flap pocket the flap itself did not have any sort of internal reinforcing, the stitching on the front pockets was continuous in an area that on every other soft calf bag I have is broken up. The suede lining was thinner. Honestly all very small, I had to REALLY go over the bag physically.

I think I have 15 of the soft calf classics, all bought through eBay and similar sites, and it's pretty incredible I've gone this long without getting a fake. And even with my carrying one of those bags every day for the past ten years, had the weight of this one not caught my attention, I probably never would have looked closer - it's that good. I initiated the return stating it was counterfeit, and without replying or asking any questions she immediately started the return process on her end. The silver lining is now I won't feel so guilty about that peacock Stella that I might have picked up this week. ;)

And this pink one (same seller). Also looks authentic, but I'll be darned if I can figure out the color, which always gives me pause. That's really unfortunate. I haven't seen very many 2003/2004 fakes that were even half-way decent.

I know that sometimes, mostly with the older bags, you can only tell until an item is in hand, but still, I feel bad. If you have time to take any comparison photos before you send it back and wouldn't mind, I would really appreciate it. I'm looking at photos of a 2004 Venetia and a Cammie I had and can't find the stitching differences; I'm bothered that I missed something, heh.

better photos of the nameplate and zipper pull engraving are needed for both. let's go with photos of the back of the zipperhead, too.

it looks like amethyst to me, too. i also agree that the other one looks like raspberry, though i thought raspberry had a beige cotton lining. maybe it also had a light pink lining.

Girl, absolutely no feeling bad! I will grab some photos this afternoon. I keep meaning to organize my bags, so it might be the perfect excuse to pull them all out. :) Truly no worries, totally refunded, easy peasy. It took me and three other Venetias in my hands, and a good 30 minutes, to figure it out. And the "feel" isn't ever going to translate in pics.

This where I am perplexed, I feel like raspberry is the closest, but I have a raspberry Stella and it is indeed the beige cotton lining. I feel like that purse is brighter maybe? The only other thought I have after sifting through every pink photo on here is were there variations in Berry? I've seen a few on here that are listed as Berry that look more like that bag than they do my Berry Venetia.

Wait, berry and raspberry were two different colors, weren't they? No?

I don't think it's Berry. Assuming this is correctly labeled, the zipper tape is darker

Here's my berry confusion, I've seen this berry

And then there is raspberry, which I'm starting to think that one of the "berry" colors is indeed raspberry. Here's my actual raspberry Stella:

I feel like the one on eBay is brighter than my raspberry, not as bright as Violet, definitely not the darker berry with tonal stitching. Plus my raspberry has more of a cream stitching and cream interior like you mentioned, and the eBay one appears to have light pink stitching and interior. I've also read on here that magenta has light pink/lilac stitching and interior, which sounds like it could be a match, but darned if I can find pics of that color.
