They always seem cleaner and fresher when washed than dry-cleaned. You’d be surprised how much heat silk can take…I always use a higher setting than the silk setting on my iron and will use a small spray of fabric sizing which helps to restore that new feel And give the scarf some body.

May I ask which fabric sizing? Is this the same as fabric starch?

Fabric sizing is a plastic (petroleum based) product and so I won't use it as I don't want my skin absorbing the chemicals. I prefer the natural silk feel as opposed to the 'dry cleaned' feel which is slippery (due to the silicones and plastics that they spray on the silk). Each to their own.

The London Laundry Ironing Spray is not petroleum based. Not all sizings are. Almost all clothing has had sizing applied to the fabric, which may or may not be petroleum or formaldahyde based. Who knows what Hermes uses to begin with but that’s why it’s always a good idea to wash all new clothing before wearing.

Hello. I used the search box to look for answers to my questions and none showed up, so I hope you can help me. I have not worn any of my Hermes scarves since before COVID. I took them out of my drawer today to show my friend, and they smell like the sachet packet in the drawer. I do not want to wash them because some are new in the box, and some are in like-new condition. Is there a magic fix to get the scent out of the scarves without washing them?

Thank you, and I would appreciate any help and knowledge you have.

I would air them out... So use a trousers hanger (a metal hanger with pegs built in) or just a normal clothes hanger and use pegs... Hang it up outside in a shady spot or maybe your patio for a few hours? This will allow the air to circulate around the fabric and will hopefully remove any musty smells.

If hanging scarves outside makes you at all nervous, placing the scarves on a drying rack beneath a ceiling fan or on a rack in front of a portable fan may be enough air circulation to reduce the sachet fragrance. May take a few days, but likely will help. Also, sometimes just hanging a scarf over a the back of a chair for a few days is enough to help. Good luck!

You can send your scarves to Madame Paulette for ozone treatment. Other dry-cleaners do this too, but Madame Paulette is accustomed to dealing with luxury fabrics. The ozone neutralizes odors.

Hello everyone! I wore my silk scarf once after the purchase. When I took it off, I found strange spots. I'm not ready to wash the whole scarf. I read that spots can be removed with micellar water and a cotton pad. It leaves no streaks. Does anyone have such an experience? Or maybe it is possible to remove spots with another product?

I reckon (guessing here) that it is sweat (ahem, 'perspiration' for women) mixed with makeup maybe? Honestly I think I would rather wash it rather than put make-up remover on it.... I assume that is what "micallar" water is - just a fancy made up word for chemicals to strip make-up off your skin?

I am more than happy to be corrected!!!

I wash my H scarves all the time and have never had an issue...

I had to look up micellar water , I noted it is a commercial makeup remover by Garnier, then a pop up appeared asking for my email, and the pop up blocked my seeing the ingredient list - since I refuse to give out my info Willy Nilly because I am a grump lol Hmmm yeah I would not use that until I knew EXACTLY what is in it

There are commercial products for silk cleaning or I use Woolite , have even used spot remover like Shout in a pinch - spot treatment only

PS I am careful with washing and drying the silk, see previous posts here - no over washing, no crumple it up, dry flat, watch like a hawk for bleeding colors, color catcher etc
