I just want to say thank y'all on this forum for all the good advice on scarf cleaning. After 2 years of using my CSGM heavily during winter months, my lazy ass finally took it to the dry cleaners and it made it back in one piece :yahoo:

I was air drying the last few years hoping any smell would come off, which most of the time it did haha
If it’s just smells you want to get rid of, fold and put in a plastic baggie in the freezer for a few days. This is a trick they always recommend to extend denim wear before washing and I’ve found it works for scarves, too!

Hi all, I just received a second hand CSGM (Cavalleria d’Etriers) that has some stains. It seems like the colours have been running with washing (although the seller claims it has never been washed 🙄). Also the colours look a bit faded and not as shiny as my new shawls. I did have some suspicions as to its state considering I only paid half of current retail.

Wat would you advise? Take it to the dry cleaners or handwashing? I handwash all my new shawls but maybe this one, as it is older (from 2015) is prone to colour bleeding?

I suppose these kind of stains cannot be removed? Thanks!

What a beautiful CSGM. The colors are to die for (pun not intended). And, as you mentioned, it looks like the dye ran to me as well. I think it's a terrific find whether or not you can doctor it.

However, since you asked, and I scoured this thread for hours back when I first discovered it, as I recall, somewhere in this thread, the advice to remedy this was to place the area the dye ran over the top of a bowl, and carefully pour boiling water over the affected area to seep through it and into the bowl. With luck, that should take the excess die with it. Another recommendation was to repeat the wash using the handwashing cycle in your washer, using a Shout Color Catcher sheet, as some had success with that. The bowl and boiling water method seemed to be more strongly recommended, though, as I remember it.

Good luck and enjoy your beautiful new-in, @redheaddem!

Dear RedHead, the stains indeed are the color bleeds from washing. Pink and Red are notorious for color runs, so I would never attempt washing anything with those colors. I am quite used to scouting pre-loved market and restoring the shawls, but I would return this one - regardless of how much you paid (that is if this is at all is a possibility). As far as pre-loved cashmere, I tolerate pulls and fuzz (can fix/remove it), flat hems (can re-round them) but any holes and color breeds are a no-go for me. You "might" be able to do the hole thing with boiling water - see if that would work, but you really have to judge for yourself "if the juice is worth the squeeze" - so to speak. If possible, return this one and invest your $ into something in better shape. My apologies if this is too direct.

Thank you @SilkCashmereCotton for kind words and the info regarding the boiling method. I did a search in this topic and did find the posts. It seems it has been done on silk, and I wonder if the cashmere can handle boiled water or if it will felt. I might give it a try on a very small piece of the fabric first, and before that, on a piece of one of my old cashmere sweaters.

Thank you @Ashanti_Rose, it is good to read you, we have missed you on the forum, as well as your beautiful shawls.

I bought this of a private seller so returns are probably not possible. And I love the design and colours so I can probably live with some staining too ☺️
