We have culligan service. Is that water OK to us? Does anyone have an opinion? Also in CA, does everyone order Le blanc online or have a source instate because shipping is from Alabama. And one last, Do the CA people use something else because of the shipping of le blanc? TIA

I always wonder/worry that cleaners will stick a tag or pins through the silk so, I am a DIY washer woman

I am glad I found this thread! None of my scarves have spots - as yet, but I have wondered about sending them to my cleaner. I hate sending many things to them; if I take another pair of trousers and they are returned so that I have to re-hem them, I will scream!

Thats weird...the website directs you to alabama if you are in california!

I get mine from dreamsacks in oregon (no tax).

and, because I love ashland, and this place is a little store in ashland...

OK, I'm sentimental.....

Does culligan get the chlorine out of your water? I

^ I will check everything out about the clorine before I do it to it! :tup:I think letting water sit (full in the tub say for ?) causes the clorine to dissapate on it's own. I really need to see what the levels of clorine are in my town if that is possible to do somehow. The water tastes OK though.

Hi I found this thread through a search on cleaning a Hermes Scarf. Of course, I knew that this is THE source. I just got my first Hermes purchased on ebay and authenticated on the Hermes thread here and was told it was unworn??? Three albeit smallish spots - possibly oily. Anguish! I am so afraid to wash it. Has anyone ever used a CO2 dry cleaner (eco friendly)? Saw the thread on the special wash from dreamsaks... Has anyone done a spot clean or do you suggest a complete wash? I have emailed the seller who seems to be reputable and am waiting for a response...

This is exactly what I do. someone told me that dry cleaning can yellow the whites and dull some of the colors.
I have never washed the cashmere ones though:sad: ...I hope they stay clean a long time. Annyone out there clean their cashmere?

Hello,
I can not speak to washing an Hermes cashmere scarf, but I can tell you that the Nordstrom brand lingerie wash makes my cashmere sweaters softer than when new with no color problems. In a really goooood way. A lovely saleswoman told me that Woolite can be very harsh on skin, and I tried the Nordstrom brand with fabulous results. I never dryclean my cashmere sweaters anymore (or socks either). Dry flat on a towel. Hope this is okay to share here.

Hello out there!

I'm new to this website. Found it when I googled "proper cleaning of Hermes scarves".

I've read all the hand washing comments...too afraid. My luck, I'd ruin it. I have a vintage scarf and the hems are pressed flat..the horror! I read where they can be re-plumped by handwashing. Can this be done by a cleaners?, and can anyone recommend a reputable Dry Cleaner in Los Angeles? I've emailed Madame Paulette for $$ info. I am so desperate I am ready to send my scarves to NYC.

Thanks.....

Hi Kitty -
I'm on the West Coast and sent my ebay purchased scarf out to Madam Paulettes in NYC. The scarf had mildew problems. After some discussion on the phone and e-mail, I sent it out.
I was thrilled with the results. The price was $73, but worth it for this vintage scarf that would have had to been disposed of without the cleaning.
Total time was about 1 1/2 weeks.
Good luck -:smile1:

I am afraid of handwashing myself, though friends washed a couple to show me and the results were great. The scarves smelled so fresh, so much better than after a bath in drycleaning chemicals! I am under the impression that in order to re-plump hems, one needs to hand wash and then manipulate the hems by gently rolling them with your fingertips. I have heard from more than one source that this works, though I haven't done it yet myself. I am confident that you should be able to find a good silk cleaner in LA - where do people take their fancy dresses for cleaning? You do need to explain to the cleaner that they should not press the hems or staple any tags onto the scarf -heaven forbid! I would think a good cleaner would know not to staple onto silk, but I would tell them out of an abundance of caution. Try calling some of the fanciest boutiques and asking them for a cleaner rec - also try the BH Hermes boutique. Good luck.

I have also plumped hems by giving the scarf about 3 minutes in the dryer with towels.....I know it sounds criminal, but it does work.....on delicate of course, and you want to have plenty of towels in there too....i put the scarves in when they are a little damp, but not WET.....

That sounds like a great solution - and much easier than trying to hand plump the darned things! I clearly need to do some work on my washing situation so I can try all this fancy stuff! I so hate taking things to the cleaners for chemical baths!
