Hi, sorry I just have a general silk question and you ladies seem to have much more experience with washing silks them me. I usually throw my cheaper silk clothes into the washing machine in a garment bag. But I tried that with a new skirt and the colors bled, unfortunately I didn't notice until it had already dried.

Is there anything I can do? I was thinking of rewashing it. But should I use vinegar this time in addition to soap? Should I handwash and rinse a lot?

Hi, I'm new here and just start collecting a magnificent Hermes scarves. I had some HS that is color run down the white area of the scarf.
Is there is a way that I can clean the color run area?
I also want to buy the color catchers, is there is a website for this?
Thank you very much and your answer is greatly appreciated.

Bumping this thread with a question:

I hand wash my "workhorse" scarves all the time and have never had a problem.

Now with fall coming I am looking at my large GM cashmere/silk shawls and would like to wash them. I am nervous about my framboise les cles b/c of the "red" with "grey". But I have a black passementarie that should be OK.

Has anyone successfully handwashed their shawls?

So, after reading most of the posts to this thread, I thought I would give washing a scarf a try.
I filled a basin with cold spring water, added a big drop of Le Blanc deter., gave it a swish, and dropped-in an old and much marked Brides de Gala.
There is a pang of panic when the silk hits the water, but don't freak-out.
I gave the scarf a good washing, keeping an eye on possible bleeds.
I rinsed compulsively well. Rolled it up in a towel. Ironed out the wrinkles.

The scarf looks, feels, and frankly smells so much nicer.

I take my scarves to the Hermes store in Dallas. They send them to NYC to be cleaned, they will also send my husbands Hermes ties. They have always gotten the stain out for a small fee. I am sure the other Hermes stores will do this also.

I have quite a number of scarves and I inquired at my local H boutique who they recommended to clean them and they said to bring it into the store and they would send it out to be cleaned and the cleaner would be careful with the rolled edges. When I asked about whether they would iron back in the folds (which I rather love), she looked at me like I had grown another head. She said no and that "most people want the silk smooth and soft with no creases". So after reading this thread, it sounds like they do come back with the folds or does this depend on the boutique? The SA also said it would cost US $25 per scarf.

Yay! ^^ Good to know. It's on my to-do list today. I am

I have had good luck using a half-full sink of water, a few drops of California Baby wash (the fragrance free kind) and then a rinse in clean water with a capful of white vinegar. Last rinse is pure water, then dry flat. While doing this, I try to handle the scarf as little as possible.
