Woah!! Thanks for sharing BritAbroad. Definitely learned something today. x

Happy to share when I can, Hermesdiorduo :flowers:

I use very, very little baby shampoo with ice cold water - just a couple of drops. Dry cleaning is just very harsh, and the chemicals irritate the skin on my neck.
If you know of something milder than baby shampoo, please let me know. :smile1:

I also have very sensitive skin too, dooneybaby, I understand you completely.
I wear a lanyard for work and just got a new one and the ribbon, or something on the ribbon, made neck red raw after just one shift... oy vey. Some scarves I can't wear at all, luckily (though not for my wallet!) I haven't had that issue with H.

I use Laundress cashmere/wool shampoo myself, just a very tiny amount in cold water with a dye catcher just in case and I rinse very well without agitating the fabric too much.
I haven't had a shawl that's soiled or stained to be able to say how well it would remove stains. But it works for me so far and and I rinse well and so far it's not irritated my skin, despite being scented (my shawls don't smell scented after). I'm not sure if you have tried it with any success or if you're sensitive to it?

Has anyone tried the Marks & Spencers stain remover for silk?

Found the little box of sachets beside the till in the men's department last week. They were fairly expensive at about £5 for 5 pads but handy to slip in a purse.

So I just washed my first (my only 90cm) HS with success and some lessons learned. I used LeBlanc Silk wash on my Galop Chromatique in CW03 which is ombre cream, tan, blues to deep purples. I had no color run/transfer but I did use too much detergent. I had two spots that I treated with a drop of detergent and that would have been enough to wash the entire scarf. I used half a cap and was rinsing forever! After rolling it in clean towels when I went to iron on very low I noticed two more spots that appeared to be greasy so I washed it again with no soap and I think it was detergent residue. It's now clean, ironed with fluffy hems and smells delightful. So happy to have these forums for all their helpful information!

I absolutely do NOT recommend Hallak, even if they are the least worst option in NYC. And even if Hermes supposedly sends stuff to them and Tiecraft.

Hallak has never removed any stain that I sent the silks to them for. They have, however, damaged the texture of my cashmeres and silks. My shawls have come back with significant pilling and fuzziness. My silks came back very much more "worn" with just one cleaning. Worst experience was I sent a shawl to them for which they promised invisible mending and it came back like a kindergartener patched it up with a totally different colored thread and so puffy the shawl was nearly 1/8" of an inch in that spot (sorry, no offense to kindergarteners). The "repair" was terribly executed, and made the damage so much worse than it was before it was sent in for repair. Nononono!

Hand washing if you have the patience and courage have yielded much better results for me. It is much gentler on your Hermes if you follow all the wonderful knowledge on this forum.

Great suggestion. Just ordered Delicate Wash from The Laundress. Thanks! :smile1:

It's Jan. ;)

bisous audreylita
thank you for your note. I now also know her name is Jan
sorry for the confusion

From my internet research on the matter,
apparently Madison sends their scarves to tiecrafters
http://www.tiecrafters.com/about.html
the fee is $29 a piece
they do pick up drop off if you are in nyc
and also international mail

so for those who would like to have professional cleaning done
this may be an option

i havent myself
i think i shall just turn a blind eye to those spots,,
havent decided yet

i do have baby shampoo readily available with my newborn

Sorry for bumping this old thread. Has anybody used conditioner when washing their silks? If so what product do you use? Normal fabric conditioner or any special products? Thanks in advance!

I never use conditioner on my silks or CSGMS because it works by coating the fibres and is really formulated to reduce build up of static , as well as softening the feel of cottons, I think.
Silk is not prone to static , in fact when my hair gets static I cure it by putting a silk scarf over my hairbrush and running it over my hair .
I don't use it on cashmere jumpers either.

Thanks! And it's interesting because some of my silks have static and are really stiff. I know silk is a fabric of protein which is very much like hair. I just did a bit google on this topic and a few sites recommended a little bit mild hair conditioner would do it. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Oh and many suggested adding vinegar in the last rinse like you suggested so I must do this since we also have hard water in our area.

Hi xiangxiang and frou frou,

I use the Laundress Delicate Wash when I hand wash my silk scarves. They also sell a Fabric Conditioner, but note it's "recommended for everyday laundry except synthetic fabrics, silk, and wool". I'm such a big fan of their products, so tend to go with their recommendations.

I hadn't even thought to do a vinegar wash, but we have hard water, too! Likely a good idea to try. Many thanks for bumping up this thread xiangxiang, always something new to learn! :smile1:
