Thank you, I will look into this. Does anyone know the agency you contact in the USA?
You can start looking at this website. I used it a few years ago to check if I could bring in my Lizzie bag into the US as per Fendi HK’s advice (because I was attending a dressy event).

Thank you I will start to try and process this now. If I learn anything I will be be sure to post it. I appreciate the guidance.

Hi!

I’m based in the US and own a crocodile skin bag. I bought it pre-owned so no CITES available. It’s my everyday bag and I’m hoping to use it for my trip to the UK/France. Will I need a CITES if it is my personal use handbag?

The intended use of the bag, personal or otherwise, is not relevant.
The skin is from an animal now covered by CITES and that functions at the very basic level of
movement from one country to another, regardless of intended use.

Every time you cross a border, even returning to US, you will be effectively importing an item manufactured from an endangered species. Whether, because of its age, it might be considered to be outside the CITES remit is almost academic. Do you want to explain your case in English, French, German, Italian when you go from country to country?

Really good points you made here! I won’t risk taking it. Thank you, WhiteBus!

I don't see how that can be an issue since both are still croc? If custom wants to go down the rabbit hole of differentiating origins and techniques of the exotics bags and for every luxury brand out there, people will end up spending days at custom waiting on the clearance.
because Hermes has a distinctive stamp for the different types of croc or gator
it would be obvious if that CITES certificate specifically stating Nilo were being used with a Poro bag

small discrepancies are red flags

it was saddening to see a poster refer to 'stupid CITES'

not all exotics are endangered and come under the CITES umbrella
but I have to admit, finding out exactly what import/export legislation applies to anything (animal, vegetable, or mineral) is difficult

sadly, enforcing the legislation sometimes comes at the expense of saving the species it is intended to protect
the book, Orchid Fever, describes some instances where collections containing rare and endangered specimens were confiscated then the plants died because they were not cared for properly

I have a question regarding CITES for lizard.
There is a date on it wich is 2021, while the bag is U stamp so manufactured in 2022.
I am missing something ?
Also the document I receive only explain the skin, nothing about the bag itself.
Can somebody please explain to me how this work?
Thanks a lot for your help.

The cites is for the type of leather, not for the bag per say. And each CITES cert is only valid for 6 months, so if youre gonna travel with it, make sure its valid by renewing with the relevant department of the country that you're in.

Hi all! I recently purchased lizard Orans out of country (in Mexico) and need to bring them back home to US. I was not given a CITES. My SA said her clients never have a problem traveling with them but she’ll ask for it. I’m not sure how long it will take. Am I okay to bring these back without?

Thank you for your help
