CITES, travel and exotics

That's good to hear. Thank you, and everyone else who has responded so far. I just contacted Hermes about sending my Kelly bag to the spa, so perhaps I'll take the opportunity at the same time to ask them about this issue as well when they get back to me.

UPDATE: My Hermes store advised that we do indeed need the CITES paperwork with us when we submit it to the spa. So I guess that answers that part of it. I still don't know yet if we can obtain it after-the-fact ourselves if we purchased it from a reseller that doesn't have it, but I think at this point it's not worth the risk. Pity...it was a lovely item. *sigh*

hi - yes the info is from the H store i purchased from - its reletivly new from what they said that you dont need cites for ostrich -

im in the uk - but am hoping to take it to europe and the states in the next few months...........

perlarare -thanks for your info i was hoping you would chime in being an ostrich lover!

so, has anyone else had any experiences they can share travelling with any exotic?? as its a pale colour id travel with the ostrich(s i can wear it with summer clothes) but am waiting for croc - i cant see me bothering to travel with any other exoctic i think ill keep it to the kelly ostrich and normal leathers to avoid any probs.............. i never find customs look at my (other branded) bags - i get my carry on searched often but they say its random - i think they like to have a nose lol!!!
Sorry I am late, but yes , Ostrich is Cites exempted, so no worries of any kind.

Hi ladies i’m hoping someone has an answer to my question. I know each exotic bag/wallet is supposed to come with a CITES, but I just realized that i made the mistake of putting all my CITES together in one place instead of with their corresponding bag/wallet, now I can’t tell which paperwork is for which. Except for a very few of the CITES on which my SA wrote down the name/spec of the bag, the rest all got mixed up and I couldn’t seem to tell based on any numbers on the CITES. Does anyone know if there’s a way to tell which paperwork goes with what bag? TIA!

I would love to buy a vintage Hermes crocodile Kelly on my next trip to France and was wondering whether it is allowed to bring it with me to the US. If any of you lovely ladies have this experience, I would really appreciate your advice on what documents are needed to be able to do that

I think this could be risky without a CITES certificate. Have even heard of customs taking crocodile watch bands. I would look for what you want in the USA and avoid the hassle.

I agree with Golcond it’s better to play it safe. If you decide to purchase outside the US- you are required to have a Cites Certificate for the bag prior to entering back to the US customs will definitely check.

Thank you for your insight Rouge H (one of my favorite H colors!) I will make sure to educate myself on the CITES Certificate process and requirements.

You could find yourself with a very very costly confiscation and possibly prosecution.
Don't be clever by trying to conceal it in plain sight either.

My SA said it’s almost impossible to tell which CITIES goes with which bag once the bag is sold. So i‘m wondering how the customs will be able to tell if a CITIES shown to them is actually for the bag in question? I have all the CITIES for all my croc/gator bags but I don’t know if I can figure out which one is for which bag now. Of course from now on I’ll make sure that I make notes.

Do all exotic purchases come with a CITES certificate? Just realized my ostrich K purchase from a US boutique didn’t come with one. Is this going to be an issue if I bring it on international travels?

All exotics from Hermès come with a CITE certificate, mine was always taped inside the box lid, check maybe it’s there, if not you can ask them for another one. It is important to bring it with you, I always save a copy on my phone for international travel.
