Charms on your Purse?

What I'm really looking for, now, is some good quality clips (like the one on the bus charm), so I can convert my keyrings into proper charms. :smile1:

Most of the clips that seem to be readily available don't appear to be very good quality, though...

I love your collection of charms! I may be able to help steer you towards some component jewelry shops that you could shop for better lobster clasps, as you mention. Oriental Trading is inexpensive, and has standard clasps, oversize clasps in sliver only, and silver swivel head lobster clasps. Drop me a PM if you wanna talk more or need help finding a link to their website!

Oh, that's great!

Thanks, alissa! :flowers:

I'd be particularly interested in the swivel head ones, as they're so versatile, aren't they? :smile1:

I love the horse one!! Where did you get that?

Thanks, sssl! :flowers:

That was an eBay find - it's from a Chloe Kerala bag (the same line as the wallet I posted). :smile1:

I've always loved the Kerala charms, but never really felt the bags were for me and so when I saw someone was selling their horse charm, from their NAP-bought bag (as they felt it was too big), I went for it! :D

I wish they'd also sold the other charms (the horseshoe and the ball) with it, as well, but still...

Separate Kerala charms do, occasionally, come up on eBay, but you have to be very careful they're not fake, of course.

Yesterday a male friend introduced me to some of his friends (male and female), and I like to think I'm a pretty laid back chick, but when I walked in the door I noticed the slightest facial twitches when they saw this on my arm :sweatdrop::

Very rarely do I see people do this style, but I like to every so often to give my purses an extra PoP! of color. Scarf collecting is something I picked up from my mother, and this gives me an extra way to wear them.

The scarf in the picture is hers actually, from back in the day.

They were all cool with me, of course, because by inviting me my friend repped for me (even though he sometimes also gives me crap about my collection :p) but, admittedly, when I saw this look before I started doing it it came off as "I spend my summer in the Hamptons and 'share' is a noun, not a verb"

Does anyone else here do this?

Is it too much hassle for the look (fear of getting caught on things, having to set the purse down, etc.)?

Sometimes, can even the shape of your purse come off as "prissy"? :confused1:

Opinions needed.

Though all ended well, it was still awkward. :shrugs:

Personally, I am not a fan of scarves on bags. The "designer scarf" with the logo in full sight reminds me of the 70's, when YSL, Dior and Hermes silk scarves were very fashionable (in Italy). You could not see a middle-class lady without one of those square, silk scarves.

Since it is not my look at all, I do not own any silk scarf nor would I wear or wrap them around the handles of my bag, but... having said this, if you like the look and it is your style, what do you care about what others think?

We live in a society where anything goes, and even if having no "fashion rules" can be unsettling, it also means that everybody is free to choose the style that suits better their personality. I would just say: enjoy the freedom of carrying whatever you prefer, regardless.

I think it looks great. I have tried this look and it just doesn't seem to stick with me but I always admire it on others. I am really sentimental and think its wonderful that it's your mom scarf. Adds that pop of color you like and it's special. If you like it you should wear it!

I'm not a fan of this look either, but nor would it work for me. I have a tendancy to kind of sling my bags around & making sure a scarf looked perfect all the time would drive me nuts. But YOU like it & thats what matters. Different strokes.....plus the fact that your scarf collecting is something that you got from your mom & that you're using her scarves makes it 'more' than just decorating your bag. KWIM?

Although I don't like this look, I can be impressed with it on others. Recently on this forum I saw some Marc Jacobs bags festooned with scarves. I own a couple of Marc Jacobs bags, but since this look isn't my style I wouldn't be able to pull it off. So I resisted the temptation to decorate my bags. But for many ladies this works.

I like the look of scarves on bags, but I don't think I can pull it off all the time. I usually try some of the smaller scarves (like the Coach Ponytail Scarves) to put on my bags.

I agree with you though, sometimes I wonder if it makes my bag too prissy.

It is fun to add a pop of color to a single color bag though. I use key fobs/charms on mine sometimes as well, but not with a scarf too. I try to limit it to one or the other.

I like it!
I wear scarves on my bags.
I'll switch it out with a charm once in a while.
I actually find that a scarf or a charm is a good icebreaker (whether on my bag or someone elses).
Nice, safe, neutral ground on which to start a conversation.
Beats talking about the weather.

I had to look twice as I wasn't sure if scarf was attatched or just used as a backdrop. Personally I am a huge fan of a scarf and love dressing my bags but I tend to go for them skinny scarves and make a bow. It stays on the bag, doesn't get trapped or dirty on the floor and try to colour co-ordinate but that is just me. Some people that know me don't like mine. If you like it do it, suit the wearer etc...
