Brooke Mueller 'agrees to have twins tested for foetal alcohol syndrome' as angry Charlie Sheen 'tweets his children are in grave danger'
Brooke Mueller has reportedly agreed to let child protective services 'test her sons for foetal alcohol and drug syndrome', a medical disorder caused by the substance abuse of a mother during her pregnancy.
The troubled ex-wife of Charlie Sheen, is said to have come around to the idea, after the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services received a letter from Denise Richards about the 'disturbing behaviour' displayed by four-year olds Bob and Max while in her care.
According to RadarOnline.com, a source close to the case said: 'It will be crucial that DCFS follows up and follows through with whatever the testing reveals. The boys’ lives literally depend on it.'
During her pregnancy with the twins, Brooke, 36, checked into rehab twice for her alleged addiction to crystal methamphetamine.
At the time, it was widely reported that Mueller, 'drunk large amounts of alcohol while pregnant on top of the drug use which included meth.'
On the Drink Aware website, Dr Raja Mukherjee, of the Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, explains the consequences of alcohol and narcotic abuse during pregnancy which can lead to foetal alcohol and drugs syndrome.
'When a pregnant woman drinks, the alcohol goes across the placenta to the foetus via the bloodstream,' says Dr Mukherjee. 'The foetus’ liver isn’t fully formed, so it cannot metabolise the alcohol quickly enough.'
Substance abuse: Brooke allegedly consumed drink and drugs - specifically crystal methamphetamine - during her pregnancy with the twins
Prompted: LA's child protection services ordered the test after Denise Richards - who was given temporary guardianship - penned a letter detailing the twins' 'violent and disturbing behaviour'
Legal battle: The boys' father Charlie Sheen is currently fighting in court with his ex-wife Brooke over custody for Bob and Max
This causes the unborn child to have a high blood alcohol concentration, which causes an oxygen deficiency, and, a lack of nutrients needed for its brain and organs to grow properly.
Symptoms of foetal alcohol and drug syndrome, include hormonal disorders, cerebral palsy and other muscular problems as well as epilepsy.
Brooke gave birth seven weeks premature with the boys, and they were forced to stay in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in order to remedy their weak heart conditions.
Denise Richards had been temporarily caring for the twins, but wrote to the DCFS to say she could no longer because of their 'violent and disturbing behaviour'.
She said it led to her own two daughters be 'strangled, kicked in the head and stomach, scratched, bit, slapped, punched in the face and head.'
On Friday, Brooke's brother Scott was given temporary guardianship of the twins as the custody battle between Meuller and Sheen continues.
The Anger Management has recently taken to Twitter to openly talk about the case, in direct defiance of a gagging order issued by a court.
The actor tweeted on Friday: ‘o lemme see if I got this straight. [M]y twin boys are now in harms way and in grave danger.
‘eing "raised" by a gaggle of incompetent and lascivious marionettes all ruled and fooled by an adderol snorting husk called Brooke [sic].’
