Yeah totally.
I know everyone's complaining about his accent in Green Street but damn I loved it. And if I remember correctly he had one in Children of Men too.
It's just a huge difference if a Brit says "Darling" or an American. :amuse:

Ah yeah it's the specific thing when you are so used to accents in the UK (or anywhere else on that matter), you just pick it and point out the ick factor. I mean Fassbender's German accent/speaking bugged the eff' outta me in Inglorious Basterds but I guess it's how Tarantino wanted his undercover character to play it. Yeah in Children of Men, CH had one too, but he was shouting through them dreadlocks most of the time :D funny thing is his accent popped out during in SoA episodes at times.
Anyway, sometimes it happens to lose the accent but you can get back on it pretty quick. When I moved to France for a while I was so immersed into the French universe that I lost the Brit accent for a while and even forgot some English words at some point... and when I moved back to the UK, the weirdest thing happened and it clicked back naturally... huh!
Darling is such a common thing to say here but yeah the accent does the trick! :D

I have to say I was disappointed in Fassbender's German in Inglorious Basterds. For someone who claimed he speaks it on a conversational level and who has a German dad I expected better pronunciation.

It's true, people tend to loose their accent when away from home. I find it funny with Claudia Schiffer or Diane Kruger when they do German interviews. You can totally hear the English language in it and how they pronounce the 'r' and stuff but I believe as soon as one goes back it comes back naturally. So I hope Charlie picks up some of that too.

Darling makes my panties drop. I tell ya. :D

BagBerry13, I will say again that I do not believe that you are anymore aware of what goes through a celeb's mind than the rest of us, yet you are very critical of other opinions. We aren't trying to prove here who is the leader in obtaining info, are we?

I guess you don't know that others have different opinions to you.

Let me say that I am not "hung up" on anything, even interviews. My opinion is that people with strong talents move out of one spot frequently, and Charlie does have strong talents. I don't know what he will do, but neither do you. Obviously, my feelings and yours are different - in several ways. I will respect what you say, and you do the same. Neither of us have access to his decisions.

With all due respect to accents in general...

Beauty is said to be in the eye of the beholder and I guess the same could be said for accents. I fail to understand at times all the bashing Charlie takes for his accent or lack of. I sincerely hope he retains the accent he has now and doesn't revert to the original. Would much rather here him say darlin' than daaaling any day.

I would guess he will not have an American accent or variation of for Crimson Peak. Guess we will have to wait and see and then we can pick apart that too.

Lillygurl, I definitely know about accents since I am from the South.

I don't see anything wrong with his accent, but I have heard that his area of England has a very different accent and to the point that some cannot understand what is being said. I have read several articles about this film, and I think it is set in England. Do you know?

I read something interesting that said we might not be able to recognize him with the makeup they are putting on him for this film. Did you read that?

Go to Lipstick Alley when you get a chance. Page 10 to 12 or 13 is about Charlie. Some of it is old, but some is new enough that they have the new pics of Charlie and Morgana that were made within the last week. Some of it is pretty interesting. Have you heard the date he will be going back to Canada?

Part of it is set in Cumbria

I think this explains Charlie's whole approach very well. Hence why there are not much photo shoots of him or fragrance campaigns and stuff.

So I try not to do press and if you can keep the balance of keeping a certain degree of anonymity and do interesting work then you can hope for a degree of career longevity.
