Haha You haven't seen Nicholas Nickleby? :smile1:

Ooh noo, why is that also a sexy-times kinda thing? I dont mind seeing him in a serious intense movie with sexual undertones but this whole 50 Shades seems like a joke, from his previous interviews and what I've heard of how seriously he takes acting, I just never would have imagined this would be his type of role. I mean it's basically Twilight part deux right?

What happened to Tara's hair?! I like to imagine that she's pointing a gun at him because she's all like, "50 Shades of Grey mothertrucker!?! WHAT WOULD GEMMA SAY!!!"

No, but it's the worst kind of cheesy movies. He admitted himself that this was one of his not so good decisions to make. He always names Nickleby as his bad Hollywood experience in terms of control over the character and stuff. He said this movie made him realize what kind of movies he wants to make and with whom he wants to work.
Tara's hair is cut off since the first episode of season 6 (I think Maggie shot another movie in between). I'm glad to see that she's out of prison by that episode. But given Jax's hectic demeanor and Tara running around with a weapon I think sh*t hit the fan.

^^ Also makes you realise there's no such thing as a bad decision if it leads to a greater awareness. If the role helped clarify what direction he wanted to take than it's not a wasted opportunity. I give Hunnam a lot of grief for his acting but that doesn't mean I don't think he has the potential to improve, lots of really good actors sucked a lot before they gave their best performances. Even the decision to take the (probably trashy) role in 50 shades of whatever might turn out to be a good move... you just never know.

The director is primarily known as an art house director maybe she was able to convince them of the artistic merit of the project. ;)

I don't know which movies you've seen of him but I can't speak of bad acting on his part. Most of his movies got at least critical acclaim and he's able to change for the role (most people didn't even recognize him in Children of the Men or Cold Mountain). And especially SoA is showcasing his talent. Yeah I know the Americans are complaining about the accent but I don't care because I don't know how it's supposed to sound right. For me it sounds alright and doesn't distract me at all from the story. He already could've been known earlier to a wider audience because they offered him the average run-off-the-mill-blockbuster a few times but he always turned them down. I'm really curious to see why he took this one now and how they sold it to him.

I would describe Fifty as a sexual book with serious undertones, despite the jokes made (and many all in good fun) Fifty at it's heart is a love story. He's taking on the role of a man that had a tragic beginning in life (crack whore mother, abuse from pimps, johns) and deals with that by insisting on control in all things, business and in the bedroom. He meets and falls in love with a woman who as much as she would like to, just cannot fit into that world. So he has to come out of it, give up much of his control if he wants any kind of future with Ana.

Christian is a meaty role to take on, so many layers.

A clip I haven't seen of Charlie talking about playing Christian, he talks about preparing for Christian as he has other roles, he's going to dig deep and try to understand the psychology of Christian, the foundation of what makes him who he is, etc. This is exactly what I was talking about above, Christian is a complex character and will be an interesting but challenging role to play. It's sides to the story such as this that make it more than just about sex or kink. There are deeper levels here that are often forgotten in the fun of talking about the sexual aspects.

I agree. Even on SoA, he's really great, very talented. I also dont mind about the accent because it's one of those things that's quite hard to get right and I dont think it ever detracts that much - at worst he sounds a wee bit Australian now and then. But for those who doubt his skillz, SoA is a great starting point. I think that's probably why a lot of fangirls are up in arms, just based on that role he'd be stereotyped as an actor who can only play a rough, hardened thug type.
