Okay, back from seeing Crimson Peak. Can confidently say that I thoroughly enjoyed the film, and films in this category rarely capture my attention. He was good and had a decent role in it. Guillermo did a fantastic job overall, as did the cast.

Saw it, it was entertaining. A bit violent though.
I saw it. The movie is visually one of the most stunning movies I have ever seen! The cinematography and costumes were so sumptuous that you just wanted to eat them. I thought Charlie did a great job in his role. He played someone that was wholly a decent person who would act without compromise which was much easier to do at that time than now. He played a role that's close to who he is but not quite who he is or can be. So it's harder to play those types of roles as an actor and I thought he did very well. This was very evident in the scenes where the camera picked up non speaking glances or other looks that he would be giving someone. In other words, the silent moments that he played said a lot and that's not easy to do as an actor. Yes, prefer Charlie with the scruff but I really don't know what people are talking about if they say he's not hot when he doesn't have scruff. Everybody else did an outstanding job too with their roles. The movie lacked a kind of suspense all around. I got the feeling given the caliber of a director and writer that GDT is, that that was somehow intentional to play to the visual elements completly, in the film. Just my thought. But overall, a good movie!

In the last few days, I read a review on my computer that was not very kind to this movie. The reviewer said that one of the female rolls was weak and the movie didn't get around to being scary. I am pre-ordering the movie because Charlie is in it, and I haven't seen him criticized for his acting abilities. There will always be someone who doesn't like any movie that comes out. I tend to use my own judgment.

Also read that he is riding with three of the other SOA crew for a benefit sometime this year.

This movie wasn't about surprising people. It was about the artistry. It was more shocking in the beginning. By the end one was simply invested in the characters.

I assume the "weak" female character was Mia's. Rather than imposing modern feminist interpretations of empowered women over these historical characters (and create an ahistorical reality), the characters on this film seem very true to their time and their circumstances, no matter how much the viewer wanted a character to see a different solution or step to take. Frustrating at times, but accurate.
