Chanel WOC- is it worth it?

Crazy question about the length of the chain strap. Hope this is the right thread.

There are so many things I like about the concept of this bag and really want to get one, but to really use it.

I've tried on the classic numerous times in stores and the chain is far too long, and it kinda drives me nuts to wrap it. I could put a clip but then it's carrying the extra weight or that section taking up space in the interior. Has anyone had it professionally shortened?

I'm not the type to sell a bag I don't use - I just give it to a sister or friend if they like it and will use it. So for me to pay to shorten the strap isn't an issue regarding "value" to sell later. But shortening it means I may be able to use it.

Thoughts on shortening the chain strap? Thank you!
I would absolutely shorten it if you don't plan to re-sell (though even if you did, there are so many complaints about WOC chain length that someone might prefer it). I had a small Classic flap lengthened-- I'll never sell -- and it was a fabulous decision. Whatever makes it wearable for YOU.

Thank you OCMom!

I've searched and couldn't find any input of someone who did have it professionally shortened. I found a purse repair place (thanks to a Purse Forum recommendation) that may be able to shorten it for me. Now to wait until I can get in to my local Chanel to see them in person - again!

As someone who is petite; 5'1'', I have to get things professionally shortened all the time. I vote for making the bag wearable for YOU, after all, that is the entire point of investing in a bag that will suit your lifestyle. Also, a professional repair shop will return the extra links to you and if you decide to sell in the future, just have them put back in... easy!

Thank you! I found a place that will shorten the straps, I have to send it out of the country. Before I do that, I will look locally. It may be cheaper too.

Indeed, I want the bag to work for me.

(I saw a video recently someone stated they saw an 11 year old WOC for sale, only $400 off the price of a brand new one. Crazy!)

But no, I don't sell my bags and don't "invest" in them that way.

I am in the US (CA) and used LeatherPros. He matched it exactly with the chain and leather, which are vintage. You would never know!

Send it to Leather Surgeons. I had my WOC shortened by them and it only too a couple weeks from start to finish. Price was $150. They sent me the part that was removed in case I ever want to add it again.

I've been having the same dilemma for quite a while already if I should purchase a woc or just a mini. I also have a classic medium flap. After some thought, I've realized that the mini and woc have two different purpose, at least for me, so I decided to finally buy one! The versatility of the woc is the deciding factor for me. Here she is!

I am the same height as you. Have you tried using the shortening clips? This way you won’t have to alter the bag and you can adjust the straps to your desired length anytime. They’re also available at chanel or you can get them from third party sellers. It looks like this

Maybe you can try first the shortening clips. You can get one from chanel or third party sellers. You’ll be able to adjust the straps to your desired length without altering the bag.

I tried these when I got my mini tweed rectangular. I bought them from Amazon and I liked how they came in varying hardware colors. However, I like to be able to vary the strap length; sometimes I like to wear the bag on my shoulder, sometimes I like to carry it in my hands and sometimes I like to wear it crossbody with a bulky coat, etc, so I removed the shortening clip because it has to be screwed into place with a mini screwdriver and you cannot change it easily while on the go... Now, I use a small safety pin or I loop the chain around itself. Also, I did accidentally scratch the leather interior while using the screwdriver:( They are a good option though if you know the length that you want and you only want to wear the bag one way.

Oh I see. But mine doesnt need to be screwed… you just have to flip it.. as easy as opening the cc lock of the classic flap.. please see below video I saw on youtube for reference.. if yours need to be screwed.. maybe we have different ones..

Congrats! I have to admit, I did not think that I would like the WOC as much as I have. It is fantastic for travel and can function as a wallet/clutch for any occasion. When I traveled to Italy, I brought my NF GM and the WOC. The WOC functioned as my wallet, and I just pulled it out for whatever we were up to. It transitioned from day to night so well, and it was easy to turn the logo side in to my body to be a bit lower-key. I continue to reach for it all of the time. Hope you love it!

How thoughtful that they returned the shortened portion in case you do need it in the future. That's not a bag price point too. Thank you! Are they in Doylestown, PA?

I found the shortening clips with the Aussie on-line store that also sells the inserts or shapers. I wondered if having that section of the chain in the bag would get in the way?

Hope it's okay to post the link here: https://www.luxegarde.com
