Yes - I'd want to modify it to make it practical - but feel I shouldn't feel the need to change it from what it was intended. but then again, we all make alterations to sleeve length etc to make clothes fit us better. Perhaps A few tweaks might just about make it practical!

Has this tweed jacket from Metiers been discussed? It is so stunning In real lifeView attachment 5192728View attachment 5192729View attachment 5192730 (as is the price ) - but the sides were open and you need to close up front and back with a belt. I was so disappointed to see this. Did anyone go for this. The colours are so perfect that I thought perhaps a button to try and close the sides would make it work. Any thoughts ....
Can we see the back please.

I didn't take a photo of the back but it looks like a normal jacket - no split. The design of the jacket is like an overall/ tabard so it is totally open from the sides right up to the armpits - so you dont even need to open the buttons to put it over your head!. It then has a long belt (in same fabric) attached to the front on both sides (at what would be the side seam) and you pull this to the back and tie at the back. I recall that the belt is pretty long!

Ah thanks for a great description. Maybe I'll go look at Chanel tomorrow.

You have to ask in the boutique, as I think you’ll need extra material in order to close the sides. A friend has it and she wears is with a blouse under. I think it’s very unpractical this way as one can not wear it open. But I agree the lesage is beautiful and the buttons are typical Chanel.

Quite possibly! Has anyone bought this or considered it. I feel it’s unusual and stands out for that reason - but is it better than a classic jacket ...

I recall the SA said that the red and blue one can be worn in 3 styles/way: 1) wrap it around the back and tie it with the bow out; 2) wrap it around the back and tie it underneath the back panel piece so that it's like a cape (and I guess that resonates to the castle theme); 3) "I think" it is to tie it at the front.

both the red and blue one that Ari posted are beautiful!

I hadn't thought of the cape style! This jacket is similar but slightly different to the pink one - the belt on the pink one is not visible on the front panel at all and there are buttons rather than a zip. I'm now thinking its not so unattractive but at this price, perhaps I'll wait for a more practical design. As you say the lesage work is unreal.

Ok I tried it on. My suggestion is to add hook and eyes under the arms so it holds it closed and gives that more hourglass look. It’s so easy for the tailor but depends on whether your store and SA agrees to it. I’m personally not sure I want an open jacket which wouldn’t keep me warm, for £9k.

Thanks for your comments periogirl - The more I consider the impracticalities, the more the colour and tweed draw me in.... Does this type of tweed come up again and again in Chanle jackets or is it a one off? Im trying to weigh up buying this or waiting for a more practical jacket in a similar fabric

Chanel will definitely have jackets in this Lesage Tweed with fantastic buttons, at this price range. If you love the colour then go ahead.
