CHANEL REISSUE

Hi all! First time posting on TPF here. Also hoping to purchase my first Chanel in the not too distant future.

A lot of back and forth between the CF Black Caviar w/ SHW in the medium and the Reissue distressed/aged calfskin (HW undecided) in 226 and I think the Reissue 226 will be the most practical choice for me size and chain length wise -> I’m 5’8 slim/medium built and like my bag to sit slightly higher above my hips when worn crossbody.

I’ve got my eyes on this one, although I’m not really questioning the authenticity of the bag, I do have some questions after doing my homework even after reading all 136 pages of this thread and more!!!

It’s a 12 series black quilted reissue. The inside of the second flap is black leather but the lining is grey and fabric(?)...I’ve only seen them either all black leather or the classic burgundy leather and all the other preloved 12 series(black bag specifically) I’ve seen online all appeared so as well. The seller said this is just the way the bag was made for a 12 series. Is this normal or a thing as I’ve never seen a classic style with fabric lining?

Also, the dust bag is the black one that comes with non-classic style. Can’t remember when Chanel introduced the white dust bag for classic bags.

And if both of the above are true, how does the fabric lining hold up in terms of durability? Is it better or worse than leather lining? Peeling problem with either?

I would have this authenticated. All my Chanels have leather interior. I would question the fabric and the shiny silver HW.

If you do not want to pay the fee, there is a forum in here to authenticate the bag. Or you can scroll through all the purchases from 2008 and 2009 to see if anyone mentions the fabric interior and SHW. I usually see ruthenium HW, but I am by no means too savvy in Chanel, as I have only started purchasing a few years ago.

The reissue was "reissued" in 2005 and had a leather lining then, and I believe 12 series is 2006-2008. I haven't heard of it ever having a fabric lining. I would definitely suggest getting it authenticated.

My 226 came in! While I prefer the look of the 225, this will be my weekday bag and it needs to hold more than my weekend bags and will be worn crossbody. I love the iridescent color of chain compared to the quilted reissue so black that came out in 2019.

I’ve purchased from this company before and they also use Entrupy as another safety measure but it definitely is odd to see a classic with a fabric lining

For me it looks more like a lambskin or aged calfskin with metallic finish. The seller just mentioned “leather“ and I’m waiting for her clarification on this point. And the quilts on both side and the base are not flat and stiff as I‘ve seen on an usual reissue in TPF. I attached here some photos to compare.

I don’t have much knowledge about Reissue as I‘m just in to get one. I’d appreciate any input from you here.

It does look a little like your bag has a metallic finish. Calfskin can have different looks depending on the batch of leather. I'm not familiar with the 08/09 calfskin enough to know, but I wouldn't be surprised by the bag being metallic calfskin. It also might be sheepskin. Chanel's done several metallic reissues in sheepskin, and that generally has a puffier look.

So I posted mine in the Authenticate This Chanel thread and the authenticator responded saying mine is actually a 2009 seasonal bag called the Surpique Reissue which is about the same size as a Jumbo but with a wider base(depth) but no mention of the shiny leather. The fabric lining is normal since it’s a seasonal bag but the shiny leather could be either 1) from the way the photos were taken? or 2) because it’s a seasonal bag so even if it’s aged calfskin Chanel did a shiny finish on it? or both? Sorry I can’t help you further as I’ve never got to see the bag in person so can’t really say how shiny it is if it were “metallic”

Sheepskin comes from an older animal, which is one of the reasons it's a little tougher than lamb. It doesn't take color quite as well, so you're less likely to see BRIGHT sheepskin pieces, but it's a slightly more durable leather and it lends itself well to iridescent and metallic finishes (from what I've seen). It also has a different texture as lambskin. I'm not POSITIVE that it's sheepskin but it does look more like sheep to me, over calf. Either way, if it doesn't have the distressed look you're after, it might be a reason not to keep the bag. Might as well get your money back instead of holding onto something you're unsatisfied with! And then you can put that money towards the look you really want.

Hi Can I have your opinion of this bag. My SA found me this hard to find mini so black reissue. I bought it yesterday but one thing I keep looking at it. The one line across the front flap. I know it’s a common line on this type of skin but do you think it looks unattractive right on the front flap. Should I keep it or return. What do you think?

It comes down to personal preference, if you think it'll bother you id say return. It doesn't bother me at all since I love the distressed look, although it does look a bit like external damage since it runs across the entire flap! Is there any damage to the leather at the crease??
