I did some calculations...currently ( with the Europe price increase)the prices for classics (atleast medium, jumbo) are pretty close for the US and Europeans living in Europe. Of course American visitors to Europe can avail of the vat refund which helps drop the the price. I used the medium classic as an example: exchange rates as of 10/31/2017. Euro to usd is 1.16 and gbp to usd is 1.32

US price is $4900 (sales tax ranges from about 4 to 10%) so using an avg 7% total price would be ~$5243

Euro price is €4480 or $5213 for European residents

UK price is £3990 or $5273 for UK residents

US visitors to Europe can conservatively get back atleast 12% or a little over $600 back in VAT refund (of course you may have to pay some tax upon entry to the US though)

So my personal opinion is that maybe the increases will be closer to 5% then 10 if Chanel wants to harmonize prices across geographies. Otherwise unless Europe sees another increase or the dollar loses value..it will again become much more tempting to buy in Europe. A 10% increase would take that VAT refund figure into 4 figures or over $1000!

As a side note I think only Chanel has been trying to increase in Europe aggressively over the past year. I find that Dior and LV are still considerably cheaper in Europe.
Thanks for doing this. The nerd/geek:smartass: in me appreciates it!

Just called new bond st in London and they hadn’t been informed of any price increases.

It’s just a bit crazy bc as someone else pointed out, prices in the US are already some of the highest!
Didn't they just have an increase in August? I think this increase is the US only not UK or EU. I am planning to purchase in either London or Paris in December. My last purchase was in Ireland. I'm done with buying in the US if it's over 2K.

Oh apologies I didn’t know that! I had mananged to stay away from chanel for a while so wasn’t tracking price increases...now I’m back and still catching up on things!

I called up my local Chanel Boutique and asked if any "cruise" classic's had arrived. She said "no not yet, probably mid November...LOL, last year they were there the first week of november. I then asked to speak to a manager. I told him I had heard about a price increase on classics coming on the 15th. He told me he couldn't give me that information. I then said that I was interested in 2 classics for cruise and if they arrive before the 15th would they be priced the same as the last 3 years. He said no, when they arrive the new pricing would be inside the bag! So it looks like cruise bags have new pricing already baked in.

Then in a last ditch effort to get it out of him I asked him if he thought I was crazy talking about the price increase and he laughed and laughed and said "NO NOT AT ALL..

I heard the same thing. Cruise is already priced with the increase up and classics go up the 15th. Stinks!

I was in paris and London exactly two weeks ago and did all my math before I grabbed the medium classic at the rue cambon store. I only saved $547 than if I had gotten it in boston after VAT refund. I guess $500 is better than nothing. At Heathrow, I was able to pickup a business affinity for $340.25 cheaper. Europe had their price increase this past May.

if the mini is $200 more is that about 8 percent increase?
I am so confused as to why this is happening in the U.S. we already pay such high prices and I live in NY so no tax breaks for me when it comes to the additional 8.875% tax ($3592.87). This is my final mini or Chanel piece, hubby will be happy. Thank you hun, I was blind sided by this news.

I don't think they are worth more than the current prices and your right we were always the highest priced. Need to rethink this. Might be time to check out LV again. No problems with their quality for less.

I completely agree with you sweetheart. I was hit by the new price increase three years ago and had to convince myself that it was the luck of the draw but now I don't think that this is fair to us and I am happy to walk away from Chanel for good. I have a wonderful collection and maybe needed this kick in the rear to finally realize that this ship has sailed.

I am more sad that a really lovely SA who knew that I was going to purchase from the boutique for 18C still reached out to let me know. The boutique SA's that I work with as well as all the department store SA's did not say a word to me. I felt so badly for being on the boutique wait list and did not want to be rude to the SA but the NM SA was just so sweet and kind that I want to give her the sale instead.

Do you all know if this price increase will also apply to SLGs? I did not pull the trigger on a wallet I wanted last weekend - but now I’m thinking I should give it one last go before I take a break from Chanel for awhile. With the price increase in Europe, it doesn’t make sense to buy there either considering the airfare and stay.

This is a kind reminder to step back and enjoy the Chanel items I already have.

I know, this is a hard decision. I have points built up just for this moment but now feel it will all go to the increase, I've really gotten nowhere and it's unsettling. I know people say you can buy from Bergdorf's without tax if you don't live in New York, (you do) but I had a bad experience with them on a pair of Louboutin shoes 2 years ago. The return took over a month, they said they never got the shoes. I finally got to the bottom of it and demanded my money from Neimans. They were sitting in the warehouse for almost 2 weeks. Ugh. Now, not to see a bag in person, spend thousands and have to return to them bothers me. I can't shake the experience. Oh, I feel sorry for you about the SA and understand how you feel. We have some time to digest this.
