I find Chanel prices ridiculous, but decrease would make it more acceptable and devalue the brand. We already see Chanel everywhere, with decrease, it'd be oversaturated. My 2 cents:)

From this perspective, then I hope that Chanel prices would increase by leaps and bounds, esp. since I have bought most of what I needed. heh heh!

My earlier post was about the fact that in their recent press release, Chanel claims that the price increase or decrease taking place around the world is to globally harmonize prices within a 10% plus or minus range.

At the moment, US prices are higher than those European countries that just had price increase and those Asian countries that had price decrease. Thus, it is unlikely that US prices will increase in the short run.

Not sure what's the percentage gap at the moment.. If the USD strengthens further to the point that the percentage gap is more than 10%, then what is Chanel gonna do? Increase prices in those countries or reduce US prices?

Not quite sure if Chanel experienced a brand devaluation in those Asian countries affected by the recent price decrease . Perhaps, tpfers from those countries can chime in.

I have the same issue.

ECB is pumping more money into euro zone every month and Fed wants to raise interest rate in US

The former means euro will continue to be weak or weaker and the latter reaffirms USD will further strengthen against euro.

That's why I am not happy with Chanel not adjusting US mainland prices down as the gap will be wider further into the year

And....I am hoping someone from Hawaii can confirm this. I read on Herms forum that Hawaii Chanel has lowered their prices this year due to weak JPY and strong USD so prices in Hawaii is closer to prices in Japan.

I agree Chanel will less likely increase the prices soon. It's not fair that we are still paying more than Europe. However I don't see decrease ever happening in the US (only in my dreams:), the country has a strong purchasing power. I think Asian market is different than Western, Chanel is trying to avoid becoming second LV. But it might turn out as the opposite, so we'll see.

I am from Singapore but I dont see that there is a brand devaluation over here. But infact, there are actually longer Queues outside the boutique now after the price decrease.

While I was there shopping for SLGs after the price decrease, I do feel a little overwhelmed by the crowd because the SAs were walking in and out of the area where the SLGs are kept and it's actually pretty annoying cause I kept hearing "Sorry excuse me" umpteen times in just 10mins.

But it's a very good news in Singapore cause I think we have the most expensive luxury goods over here =(

Well, from my (european) point of view I do not think it's fair either when american brands are much more expensive in Europe than USA... ;)
Chanel made the "effort" to decrease prices in some countries, but not all brands would do the same.

I read about that in one of the threads... can't remember which one though.

I can confirm that prices in Hawaii are actually slightly more expensive - a jumbo here is $5700 which is 200 more than the continental U.S. However I did buy my j12 at a cheaper price than the mainland because of the whole Japan deal (a year ago).

So I'm not too sure what's going on with... If it only affects leather goods or not but that doesn't make sense...

Yeah, I know what you mean. However American brands didn't try to hormonize the pricing. What we discussed is that what happens when there's a significant difference between euro & dollar. Will Chanel increase price again in Europe or decrease in the US? I don't see the latter happening at all :)

Hi, it's now 4260 euro.
Oh gosh I paid over 5100 usd for the small classic flap. Can't believe that the medium flap still cost so much cheaper in Europe even with a price increase (not including a vat refund). Oh well.... I am happy to have had a few pieces in my collection that will last a life time and then be passed to my little girl.;)
