Apparently no more VAT refunds for tourists starting in January. The article does say you’ll be able to ship back to your home country but that seems much riskier than taking your purchases home in your suitcase. I can’t imagine this will be good for any London retailer... anyone planning a London shopping trip from abroad will probably start rethinking that and head to continental Europe instead.

Yes!!! I saw an article a few days ago and I was surprised. I think it will definitely hurt retailers in the UK and they are already suffering. I assume shipping the items to your home country makes it more likely that you will have to pay import tax and duty? I also wonder what will happen when UK residents shop in the EU in Jan? This gov page says there may be changes... https://www.gov.uk/buying-europe-1-jan-2021

Yes, agree, between the chances of the package getting lost and near certainty you'll be required to pay the import tax, it just does not seem worth it in London anymore. It's really too bad, I absolutely loved shopping in London when I traveled there and had the most wonderful experience at Chanel Bond street buying my first Chanel piece. I feel terrible for all of the SAs who work at these retailers, from discount brands to luxury, this is going to hurt them even more than I'm sure they're already hurting from the impact of Covid.

Ladies, I have recently been told that apparently there is a "bag count" limit in place in the UK. I knew that that was a thing at Heathrow, but apparently in London stores as well?!? And one can not buy "more than one bag every two months", which is ridiculous IMO.

When I was purchasing my latest classic flap earlier this month, SA told me she needed a special permission from her manager to approve this purchase because I have already bought another flap (in another London store) in the same month.
And now I want to purchase yet another bag early Oct, so I'm concerned that I will not be allowed to do so... :confused1:

Does anybody here have any info if there is a way to bypass this rule? I'm buying bags for myself only.

Hi, I don’t really have any ways of bypassing this rule, but it has been around for quite some time. I have since sold all my Chanel bags, but when I was still a Chanel customer 2 years ago they had this rule in place already for at least all non UK customers. I think France operates with something similar. You either have to buy under someone else’s name (friends, family etc) or get special permission from the manager.

I’m a Chanel newbie. I purchased a zippy coin purse and a small CF at Harrods recently and the SA took the tags off. I asked why did he take it off and he said, the tags are for the store to keep. Is this normal?
