Chanel - London

I am looking to purchase from Chanel for the first time, in London. There a couple of questions I had before I go to buy:

1. Looking for opinions on which location is best in London and what time is best to go there. Unfortunately impossible to visit during the week so will be going on the weekend.

2. I am also not 100% what I would like yet. I have been considering the small classic for a while, which is understandably harder to obtain, or might start with something even smaller for a few months as I have no need for a large bag. Was thinking something along the lines of the classic wallet on chain (pictured). Which would you go for?

3. For London stores is there a high chance of them having the wallet in stock, and are the SAs across the various locations in London fairly open to you browsing without purchasing if you're working through your different options?

Also if anyone has any other recommendations from this season about items, different models and leathers as well as if I should use a concierge/personal shopping service would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, firstly how exciting planning your first Chanel purchase! Personally I’ve had the best service in both Harrods and the Sloane Street boutique. For Harrods I’d recommend going at opening time if you can, it gets super busy at weekends so the earlier you are there the less time you’re waiting to be served (at least in my experience). Sloane street is only a short walk away so you could visit both. The advantage of purchasing at Harrods is the rewards programme-with a purchase the magnitude of a Chanel handbag the points you collect will be valuable, maybe to put towards another Chanel purchase next year! As far as what to buy goes, I’d suggest you try out all options that are appealing to you, as you might find what you think you like/want May or may not work for you and your lifestyle. I originally wanted a classic flap but settled on a WOC for my first purchase as I thought I could make it work for me and that it would scratch that Chanel itch without making the bigger splurge on the classic. It didn’t! I soon sold it and went back and bought the classic flap in the end anyway! GL deciding and happy shopping!

Sorry for the long post, but I hope this helps...

Regarding #1: I was in London earlier this year and only went to the Chanel on New Bond St. They had everything I wanted to purchase in stock.

I found the sales associates were very polite. We ended up going there twice and I would definitely recommend going during a week day and not during the weekend if it’s your first time and you don’t want to feel rushed. When we went for the first time on a week day, I got a black Reissue 266 and a black caviar card case (both with silver hardware). They had multiples of each item in stock and after we purchased them, they sat us upstairs and gave us champagne. It was very calm and relaxing and we were pretty much the only customers in the store.

When we went the second time on a weekend to pick up my black caviar WOC with silver hardware, it was definitely more crowded and we had to wait for a sales associate. They definitely still had a good amount of stock with a variety of WOCs.

Regarding #2: My first Chanel was a black lambskin WOC with light gold hardware, which I purchased in Paris. In hindsight, I wish I had gotten caviar with silver hardware (since I now never wear gold). I will never part with it since it was my first Chanel, but while the lambskin has worn well, I think caviar would have made me a little more carefree with it. After I got the WOC, I got a classic Jumbo when on another Paris trip and then the pieces I got in London.

I personally love the WOC because I can use it as a small crossbody bag or I can tuck the chain in for it to be a clutch. That being said, I don’t carry a lot with me so it works for the little bit I carry with me.

I would definitely recommend getting a classic if that’s what catches your eye and makes you happy. Definitely don’t settle for something that you’re not 100% in love with so you don’t regret it later.

Regarding #3: When I went to London this past February, they had a large selection of WOCs in stock. When I said I wanted to look at black WOCs with silver hardware, the SA brought out a bunch of styles to look at. Since I only went to one Chanel boutique when there, I can’t comment on how open the SAs are about browsing, but I didn’t feel at all pressured to make a purchase at the New Bond St. store. Both SAs I worked with were very patient especially when I took time deciding to purchase the WOC as it felt excessive to get a second one of a bag I already own just to have the hardware and leather type I wanted.

I would say mid week, early new Bond Street for the most varied stock. That’s what’s worked for me looking for a very specific sold out everywhere item. Selfridges is close by. Chanel Selfridges second floor is usually much quieter. Failing that Harrods (not the ground floor) early. The ground floor seems really busy on weekdays too.
For what to buy do your research as your needs shd dictate what you buy.

If you’ve done a telephone purchase before or have purchased with them before then they should do but I think some of the SAs need supervisor appreciation first as some boutiques are saying they’ve stopped shipping altogether on telephone orders. Some boutiques and Harrods have agreed to do this for me only because I’ve done it before in the past.

I'd also say New bond Street. I've had the best service there, even during their sales periods. Each time I've been, even early afternoon on a Saturday, SAs were patient in explaning the differences in the bags, letting me know about stock availability, and weren't pushy at all.
I think they have the best stock as well, it's where I managed to score my mini.

I really hate going to the Harrods and Selfridges concessions... the SAs act like you're beneath them. Particuarly at Harrods, there are so many super rich customers with bags and bags of stuff from other designers - I feel like the SAs prioritise them and I've found it hard to get SAs to help me. I've had SAs lie about stock because they couldn't be bothered to check for me.

I rang one of the London stores recently to try and buy a bag over the phone, having previously bought two bags at that exact store. The SA was very impatient with me and firmly said no, said I had to come into the store in person and they were very busy :/
Maybe if you get a nicer SA they *might*?

Very interesting... the rules change all the time and I’m starting to think they just make it up as they go along!

I completely agree! I was told this time that they absolutely won't reserve anything over the phone, even for 2 hours! But last year, at that exact same store, I had a WOC reserved for me by another SA. I can't explain it unless they changed their policy.

Sorry I don’t know of any personal shoppers in London but I’ve PM’d you details of my SA at Harrods. He’s the only one who gave me his contact details. Happy shopping!

Hi,
I'm also going London and Paris in about 2 weeks' time. Would you mind sharing with me your SA contacts please? Thanks in advance!
