Hi! I will be traveling to London in July and am hoping to purchase a Chanel bag at Heathrow or at one of the stores in the city. Can anyone answer some questions for me about this? I am hoping to purchase the Classic Chanel Bag ($5,600 in the US), black, grained calfskin and silver-tone metal.
1) Is it the same price if you buy at a store in the city of London vs buying in Heathrow? I know if you buy in the city you still have to do the tax refund at the airport.
2) Does the store in Heathrow sell the classic bags? I know you can try to reserve before, but am worried it will not be available.

Do you know if I buy a classic in a store in London, if I can just do the tax refund at the airport and it would be the same process as if buying one at Heathrow? I wasn't sure if there was a price difference from Heathrow to buying in a store in the city?

I believe the only difference is in certain parts of the airport, the VAT is already removed from the pricing, whereas if you buy it in the city, it is included and you have to first do the refund at the airport. I do not believe there is any difference in base pricing.

Buying at duty free upon departing from Heathrow doesn’t involve any paperwork and there is an additional 3-4% saved because there aren’t any middle agency fees (e.g. Premier or Global Blue). If you chose to purchase a non classic you could avail of this.

Hi as there are a number of Chanel boutiques in London you can usually get the classic bags. I shop at Bond St, Selfridges and Harrods and all are super helpful about stock if you ring the boutique and will tell you where stock is at other branches. Ring as soon as they open to get the best chance of someone being free to pick up I have been given a few SA details but find as they work shifts difficult to contact a particular SA again. Also they will hold a bag for say 2 hours for you to get there if they have your bag. All the SA I’ve dealt with know if you love the brand and are happy to chat and show so many styles. You can get VAT minus a handling fee refunded in dept stores there is a dept for that in the high end stores

I definitely see them occasionally but more often they just have the black small flap. If you mean a dark beige that’s a seasonal colour then I don’t think you will be able to find one as there hasn’t been a dark beige released recently. There is a iridescent beige coming out for spring summer and some stores may get the small size in. Either way just call around and the SAs will be able to check for you.

No, I meant the dark beige that was part of the original classic lineup (not beige clair). Thanks for your help nevertheless.

Hi ladies!

newbie here and i need some help. Anyone is able to share if currently there is any Mini Rectangle in black caviar at London stores?

From what i heard is Chanel has do away with caviar and only sells Lamskin Mini Rect from 19S onwards.

The reason for asking is I managed to get a reseller who is selling one rare unicorn black caviar mini rectangle and she is in london now. I am afraid of being scam.

Hello I was in harrods yesterday, they had a lambskin rectangle mini. I asked the SA whether they had it in caviar and she told me it didn’t come out in caviar this season.

The VAT refund after fees is approximately 13% in the UK. So, a m/l flap at 4300 GBP minus the 560 GBP VAT refund = 3740 GBP or about $4862, depending on the exchange rate. So, an OK, not great, savings over the price in the U.S.
ETA: The VAT % I used was from processing at Heathrow. I think Harrods may charge an extra fee so your refund would be a bit less.
EtA#2: I assume at Harrods they are advancing you the refund but you still need to get your forms stamped by Customs at your departure point from the EU and then mailed in to complete the process.

I think I saw someone trying on a black rectangular chevron mini in what looked like matte caviar in Bond Street on Good Friday

Hi there!

I'm heading up to London Mid June for a business trip and have given myself a day off for some strolling around London and shopping. On top of my wish list is to buy a classic caviar WOC SHW or GHW. Do you know at which store I have the biggest chance of success? I prefer a boutique over a department store. I'm going to have my day off on a Tuesday. I already have a reissue 226 and am purchasing the WOC to pass on to my daughter when she is 18 (I gave birth this Jan). Perfect excuse to treat myself to a new bag :biggrin:
