If traveling to London, do US visitors need to pay the tax inside harrods on Chanel?

From the Harrods website FAQs on tax refunds:
"Can I claim VAT back on purchases in store?
No. The VAT Retail Export Scheme ended on 1st January 2021. Overseas visitors will no longer be able to obtain VAT refunds on items purchased in-store. If you wish to export purchases made in-store, VAT will not be included in the price. For more information on how to export, please visit our Customer Service team on the Third Floor."

So I'm guessing now you have to pay the standard VAT (20%), unless you decide to get it shipped to you. I'm still surprised we decided to stop the VAT scheme - I'm sure it has stopped people visiting the UK for shopping.

I suspect that, dependent on what you're spending, the export cost (with the insurance / parcel packaging etc) will probably cost more than the 20% VAT. Especially as if they post it to you, you may have to pay import tax (dependent on the USA rules).

Has anyone seen the 22P pink ballerinas with the black toecaps anywhere in London, please? I know I’m late to the game but it’s more difficult finding intel on flats and I’ve been waiting for this colour to return since 2006!

I wasn't looking for them, but didn't see them in Walton Street on Saturday - and am 99% sure I would've noticed them! Good luck on your search!! (And, by God, do I also love a flat...)

Wow, has anyone seen the recent google reviews for Chanel Selfridges?
I have a gift card but maybe no point even trying! So bad.
Chanel Selfridges is my home store and can honestly say that the staff there are easily the nicest in general of all the Chanel stores in London! I’ve always found that they’re very willing to help, even on days where I haven’t purchased anything, and quick to pass on their details without me asking. So I would say visit the store, ideally in the morning and everything should be fine

I’ve been a bit out of touch with collecting bags but recently wanted get a Chanel again. I bought my first bag in 2019, it was a lambskin mini with aged gold hardware (now sold) and there were no waitlist. Just walked in and bought one. That was the Bond Street Chanel.

What is it like now? I’m interested in either a Chanel 19 in small, black and mixed hardware or a WOC in caviar, gold hardware. I don’t live close to London so want to check if it’ll be a simple process before going:)

Thanks for the tip. I will try, but if I get the cold shoulder it won't shock me!

100% agree. I make almost all of my Chanel purchases here and they are a wonderful boutique.
