Yes, I remember 3 years ago when I made my first purchase, I walked into the Chicago store on impulse, had a selection to look over, and made a purchase.
Those days are long gone.
I started my Chanel addiction in 2018 as well. It was FUN. My BFF and I would pop into our local Neiman Marcus one or two Saturday’s a month - “not to buy, only to LOOK” we would say.. but then our wonderful SA would ALWAYS show us something fabulous and we would leave with a black box :D
But now there is no more strolling in and seeing what they have. Most of the inventory is sold before it even gets the chance to hit the floor. And if you want something, you have to decide months in advance based on stock photos that are often WAY off from real life. If you change your mind near launch date, it is too late, everything is spoken for.

Those experiences you guys had sound so much fun!!! Like it should be. We are buying luxuries after all.

I am
Actually the same… I started buying in store 2017.. even just befor the pandemic around 20s i was enjoying my purchases. My SA would have good items on the floor. Would send me pics on vacation. Now, my sa is still very nice but overly busy. Was told they are understaffed. So sometimes it takes time for my SA to respond. And i agree, we have to be on top of things months before without really knowing what it actually looks like. And now buying experience is crossing our fingers we get the call and keep asking the SA hoping they dont het annoyed

Unfortunately the stress will probably not go away. Chanel is not making enough to keep up with demand. Layer on resellers, influencers, and personal shoppers still scooping up merchandise and what seems like a large flock of new buyers, the experience won't be like it was a few years ago. Great for Chanel because the frenzy is real but stressful for those of us that remember the old days.
Yep. Sucks. I also think some of the demand for *certain* items is overblown depending on the store. For example I had initially tried to reserve a mini irri blue coco at a very small store and didn’t get it. Between trying to reserve and being told not guaranteed i decided i hated it and wanted a black mini. I mentioned it to keep in mind for next season and was told it could be guaranteed this season. Some items are easier to get than this forum would lead you to believe at times.

I wish I have gotten into this earlier as well. I didn’t know I would love Chanel aesthetic. Turned out that I really do. The buying experience has proven to be very stressful. I don’t really enjoy it as much as I would like. More like work than leisure. I’m glad you got a different experience back then cause I can’t imagine if you have been buying Chanel for a long time, how would that do to your overall mental health if it has been like this for the whole time. No sure how long I can continue. The amount of researching, planing ahead and texting every SA I know is what killing my joy. It is fun at first. But I would prefer to be able to just go into the store, browse around and try on everything then decide what I would like to buy leisurely. That is more enjoyable than looking at the pictures and getting things in the mail…..sorry for the rant.
Glad to have everyone at TPF to talk and to share experiences. That eases the pain.
The resell market has also changed dramatically. A lot of my early purchases were pre-owned jumbos and just a few years ago the prices were much more reasonable and selection was really good. Even just 1.5-2 years ago I got one of my favorite flaps practically new for a very reasonable price (all things considered!). Now it’s a rat race!

I remember one of my first purchases from the boutique was a wallet. I got an iridescent pink color but they had a really beautiful (now hard to find) green and I passed on it. Wish I could go back and get it - that color never would have made it to the floor now much less linger after the release of a new collection!

Thank you! I had to ask.
Make sure they are getting the bag you want. My SA was vague about the 21K merchandise they were getting and then I realized he had me down for a completely different bag because he was not getting the one I wanted in the color or sizes I wanted. My Nordstrom Chanel is owned by Chanel though and I liked the boutique much better when Nordstrom used to lease it.

My mini just arrived! I got it, because I really want to see it in person. I also have a small iridescent pink reserved. I too am curious if the classic flaps will have less wrinkles. I will let you all know my thoughts, on all our concerns, after it arrives!!!
