I own both, real and faux, not partial to either one as both are gorgeous in their own right, but when it comes to living in a cold climate nothing beats the warmth of real fur, not down, not faux, nothing. I know where your coming from with this, I feel bad at times, but there is so much suffering throughout the world, in my state they hunt anything that moves, and I do eat meat. I buy mostly vintage and used furs, some new, and I have donated unwanted furs to Coats For Cubs, which helps orphaned/injured animals
I care for feral cats that welcome a used fur in their dens to help them throughout the bitterly cold winters. Fur wearers are not bad people, we are only human and drawn to beautiful things, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder
