Hi Ceejay! What do you think of the 2013 leather? I've read that its generally thick, wrinkly and wonderful. Do you have any idea how its like when broken in? We don't have a store here where i can touch and feel the leather. So inputs would be nice. :) thanks!

So far, the 2013 Black bags that I have seen .. have had wonderfully thick leather, but that is not always the case. For instance:

  • I saw 2 Ultraviolet Cities at the Bal-SCP boutique, one which had DIVINE leather (I almost bought it) .. but the other one had HORRIFIC leather (thin & papery -:sick:).
  • Same with Rouge Cardinal; have seen some with wonderful leather and others with truly horrible leather (these were seen at Barneys and the various Bal boutiques)
  • IMO .. Cigar Fonce has the worst leather that I've seen. Every single bag (seen at both Barneys, Bal boutiques and other retail stores in the LA area), has been consistently thin and dull .. I can't say I'm a fan at all.
  • Interestingly enough, the one leather that I thought would pose issues, was the Tournesol (since for some odd reason, the yellow dye always seems to be a leather killer!). However, every bag that I've seen has had nice & thick leather, albeit .. not as distressed as I would like it to be.
  • Beige Nougatine - seems to be like Tournesol; consistently thick leather but too "smooth" for my taste.
I know EXACTLY what you are going through, not being able to see the leather IRL (I used to be in that boat). All I can say, is to try to find a really good S/A to work with who will look for the right bag for you, exactly how you like it.

Good luck!

I can't imagine RUBBER STUDS. The bags are going to look so cheap. Why are they doing this? I am moving further away from Balenciaga all the time, every season. The only nice thing I saw was the the leather is going to be Chevre? That would be one nice change but with the rubber studs, I'll pass one more time.

But even details on just the 2013 leather won't help u with ordering online. I just ordered an Anthracite Work and received one mailed from Italy from Spring 2012!!! I mean it's brand new, great leather and beautiful blue undertones but I was really surprised it was from Spring 2012!!

*Cat* .. I couldn't agree with you more, and it makes me very sad. Most of the folks here know that I've always been somewhat of a hardcore Balenciaga enthusiast, but -- man -- they are making it hard to continue. Personally, I've always thought their clothing was a little "much" (with the exception of the Moto Jackets). If they lose their base in handbag sales, I really can't see the company continuing. I doubt that Mr. Hinault .. will continue to fund a dying brand.

Agreed .. ordering 'online' is a whole different ballgame and a scary one at that (with the exception of E's site; she's great at keeping an eye out for the leather that you like). That's why I said, the best scenario is to seek out a really good Sales Associate that you can work with .. one with whom you can describe exactly the type of leather that you like, and they will work for you to find it. If they just send you whatever they have (like a 2012 bag), then IMO . .they aren't a good Sales Associate!

I don't know what to say Ceejay. I bought my first Bal in 2011 and that is when I joined tPF. I was so enthusiastic about both. Now I am so disappointed with the brand I don't even know what to write here. I mostly post on the LV forum. IMHO the brand is going from bag to worse. When I received that email from my dearest SA Sebastien in Cannes (who hasn't heard from me for a year - what can I buy?) with the new A. Wang bags ... I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I don't like the bags I really don't. And come to think of it. They started with the introduction of the mini Giant, then I noticed the leather changing even the smell of it (which I loved), then I noticed a plasticy shine. My Rose Bonbon was the last bag I bought from Balenciaga (you know how long I have been waiting for a nice pink) but that was that. I am sad to say that although I always looked for the next colors to come with excitement, now I don't even care. Not that I am super excited with LV either. After having bought around 10 bags from them (only two in leather) I think there is nothing more for me there either. I am looking for the Celine Luggage now or the Phantom but I am thinking more of the Luggage. Anyway. You are absolutely right on what you are saying that Balenciaga won't be funded for long if they go on like introducing cheap rubber studs. It is a shame for a brand name like this to use rubber! Nice talking to you CeeJay and I was glad to see you sold your PT and other stuff. I haven't. Maybe because it is my first time selling and I have no feedback or it might be the prices. I don't know. I just can't see the day I have sold them to buy a Celine. I have only sold one on another European site.
Anyway, sorry for taking so much of your time talking.
Bye!
Catherine

Ladies - My Bal SA said that they will have the Holiday Collection in this Saturday. It is interesting to see that it says Chevre in the swatches as my SA told me that leather is agneau, but studs are different. I will report back if I have a chance to go see the bags.

In terms of quality of this season's bags, I must say I am very disappointed. Leather is thin and dry. I think the worst is Anthracite. I was shocked how different the color is comparing to the old Anthracite.
Even if I buy now, I ask my SA to find me bags from past seasons.

Balenciaga really needs to reconsider their long-term business plan.:faint:

Hmmm. I was in Harvey Nichols yesterday morning and saw two bags, a Work and a City, in what I could swear was Poupre...that lovely raspberry shade. Except they had G12 hardware, so they couldn't be Poupre, could they? SA said they were new bags, from this season.....
I am not buying, but the colour really caught my eye.
