Cartier Diamants Leger vs Tiffany DBTY

For either or both Cartier and Tiffany necklaces: does anyone NOT experience the diamond flipping (eg. sitting at a right angle to the neck, or flipping to the back side) or the diamond turning around to the back of your neck (so the clasp shows)? I honestly love the Cartier d'amour necklace so much because of that high shine of the gold 'steps' design around the diamond, and the super sparkly chain. But I keep seeing reviews saying it'll turn around the neck, defeating the purpose of the necklace showing the diamond - it would annoy me too much to keep turning it back. I like the pendant to stay put like VCA alhambras.

Also has anyone considered these dainty bezel diamond necklaces from other brands? Anyone know which ones are good and don't have this problem? I know Mejuri, Vrai (no bezel), Idyl (not stuck to the chain) have them (I like Mejuri's design most out of the 3 but chain is not sparkly), but don't see enough reviews addressing the turning and/or flipping problem.

I have two large d’amour necklaces (WG/RG) and I don’t experience the diamond flipping at all or turning around to the back of my neck. I’ve had them for 7 years now and I wear the chain at the longest setting. I have two exactly because I was so impressed that the diamond sits at the right spot throughout the day. I think the weight from little Cartier logo tag near the clasp keeps the necklace in place. I’m honestly surprised to hear that people experience flipping of the diamond.

I have the large d’amour. It does flip a little so I extended it by about 1inch? And then I found it too long for my preference.
The new length is about the same as vintage alhambra pendant. But no more flippinh after the extension.
It does turn the opposite way after a shower but not much during the day.
I'm guessing the flipping likely is caused by the chain moving upwards towards to back of the neck.

I have Tiffany dbty and it regularly turns all around my neck showing the clasp instead of the diamond. It's very annoying and sometimes I only notice it when I see myself in the mirror, the necklace and the clasp are so dainty that you don't feel it rotating. I like Cartier chains more and I think the clasp logo would help keep it place vs Tiffany's clasp is super tiny. If you're choosing between the two, take a close look at the difference in bezels. Tiffany's bezel is very minimal, while Cartier's is thicker, shinier and has multiple "floors" (I don't know how to describe it best, it has like elevating circles).

I have the Cartier d’amour in XS and don’t have any issues with the diamond flipping. I think a lot of it has to do with where it sits on each persons neck. My Cartier one is in YG, and I have a WG one I purchased first through a jewelry store on Etsy, and the chain is very similar to the Cartier one. It’s not trying to look like Cartier so the bezel and attachment is completely different (looks more similar to DBTY, but still different). That one I purchased with 2 extra jump hoops so I can change the length. It also doesn’t flip or turn on the middle jump hoop setting. What I’ve found is if it’s too long it’ll travel around your neck. If it’s too short it’ll flip. It has to be in that middle zone area to avoid both. For me the Cartier length is that middle zone.

@lexi8 I’ve had my d’amour large necklace for all ummm 8 days  and I’m not experiencing the flipping. Like @Serpenti_Love, I wear mine at the longest setting. Perhaps the flipping happens when worn at the shortest setting as there tends to be some tension during movements but it moves right back in place.

Congrats on your new necklace!

Did you pay your photo “tax” yet? ;)

Edit: Ignore this, I realized that you posted pics at the Cartier in Action thread. Very nice!!

Please pardon if this has been asked already.

Does anyone know how the diamonds compare (Cartier vs. Tiffany) in these two styles?

I know they’re not really big diamonds, but do both brands provide the specs (4 Cs) for these two necklaces? Or does anyone know the general specs for the diamonds they use for either line?

I think I prefer the Cartier D’Amour (haven’t decided which size) over the Tiffany DBTY. But aside from the carat info, I don’t know the rest of the specs.

Thank you!

Hey @BlackGrayRed! I found this YouTube video comparing the 2 necklaces below. Cartier’s website does indicate the carat (ie large is 0.18). If I remember correctly, my SA said they don’t provide the specs on the d’amour (since they are small and no cert is provided) but generally as a standard, their minimum is a D color and VS1/2 inclusion.

I’d recommend the d’amour :graucho:

Thank you so much @Serpenti_Love @pinkdewy @Maria333 @Moxisox @m-s-m-d for all your really helpful insights and advice!! I was convinced by the Youtube reviews at first that talked about the d'amour necklace flipping and turning (especially the smaller sizes), but your reviews here have been extremely helpful. After trying in store again with my own extender, testing out different lengths and just moving around to see how the necklace moves on my neck, I felt that it didn't turn beyond 20 degrees to the left or right, and the diamond would flip yes but flip right back again, so that's all fine with me. The diamond definitely rides up the neck about 2cm or so though, no matter what length the full necklace is, and that's normally where the diamond will settle on the neck for most of the time. Something I took note of. Overall I was happy with the wear of the necklace despite the small flippings, so I happily bought the large d'amour necklace! :hbeat: I will of course still observe how it wears over time!
