This look is HUGE in Sydney... except most women here take it to an evil extreme... They carry a tiny handbag, the size I would carry for evening, and then a bright green Woolworths bag or a bright pink Supre bag (shudder) stuffed full of all the things they actually need!

yes, the plastic bag sometimes an accomplice in this crime. Or sometimes the battered selfdriges or harrods bag Thats Is At Least Three Years Old

hee, hee I'm, evil, I took a pic of someone getting off the train this morning. (the larger bag is a magazine freebie)

To be honest I don't see what the problem is. I have to do this all the time to work. In my large bag (usually a longchamp foldable) I carry my gym clothes, trainers, lunch (usually chopped up carrots for snacking and a salad) and a bottle of juice or water. I carry a smaller- more work friendly bag as well with me, leave my large bag in the large drawer under my table, and keep my smaller bag with me. In the smaller bag I have my diary, my mobile phone, makeup, keys etc.

You sometimes need that extra bag for things you cant obviously fit into a Fendi baguette, and at times (especially when ging to a meeting that day outside the office) it is not correct or convinient to haul around a Balenciaga Work)

i do that since i'm in school if i have PE that day. as we don't have lockers in school here, i carried 1 bag for my books and another one for my gym clothes.
and it's happening as i work too. sometimes i carry 1 smaller purses for my wallet, cell phone and cigarettes, and a bigger bag for my other stuff.
i actually enjoying them. but i always try to get those 2 bags matches or at least looks good together.

Yep, agree - it looks better w/ just one. But to be quite honest, I often bring two purses to work - one small pochette w/ essentials and a bigger tote for files & laptop. I would normally tuck the pochette inside the tote, and take it out only to bring it to luch or meetings when leaving tote at my desk - being a bit paranoid, I would normally carry wallet, cell, lipgloss & keys w/ me at ALL times...

yikes! i do the same thing! i have a bag that carries the "not-so-important" stuff but i might be needing at any given time. and another bag to carry my car keys, wallet, cellphones. I carry both for 5 minutes after i've alighted from my car, and another 5 back when i'm going home. but never, never will i carry both during my lunch break. it's not right. hihi!

i think it depends, carrying 2 purses has its purpose. but that's just me...and vicky.

i was thinking about this thread today and i was like D'OH! i carry two bags! i carry my Vavin GM, for my books and a small bag (usually chanel) or another tote (usually chanel)....my small bag cant fit into the vavin which is already stuffed and abused, and im afraid of color transfer, well not in the vavin but in other stuff

I see nothing wrong with that..

It makes sense you might want to carry a large tote that is durable, can take the weight of your papers and files and which you can throw around, so you don't really have to baby it... Even if i buy a large designer tote.. I can't really bear to put a ton of heavy stuff in it.. so sometimes I might carry a nice small handbag for my essentials.. but use a less expensive tote to throw in papers, that I wouldn't care even if it gets spoiled by the weight, or get caught in the rain etc...

Hahah MissThing you are so BAD!! Unfortunately the green vinyl Harrod's bag is sometimes actually a fashion statement here: "Look, I've been to the UK!"

I am:busted I do this all the time in NYC.. but i don't think i carry two purses.. I carry one big tote and a purse... MY tote contains my gym clothes and sneakers and sometimes my lunch. My purse contains my wallet, keys, ipod, phone, etc. I've tried putting all my things in the tote and just carry that.. but i don't want to drag that tote w/ all my gym clothes, etc w/ me out to lunch.. that feels ridiculous. Plus there have been times that i think i'm going to the gym that day and i end up going to happy hour.. i definitely do not want to bring my gym tote w/ me to happy hour... ewwwww. In Cali, i was fine because everything was in the trunk of my car... but since in nyc you see or be seen, i feel my tote needs to look cute enough that it'll compliment my purse... It looks way better than other people who carry paper bags, old shopping bags w/ all their crap in it IMHO.

I carry two bags on my commute ... my purse and my laptop bag with all of my school/work supplies. Where I teach, I have to run from room to room, so I just carry my laptop bag and leave my purse locked up in the desk in my 'main' room. Then, when I leave, I usually leave the laptop bag in the car if I go other places and carry my purse.

I was thinking about getting a nicer bag for my laptop, but I don't want to make it look like I'm carrying two purses :D When I have the laptop bag and the purse, both are clearly defined for different purses, but carrying a purse for my laptop might confuse things.

I don't really see anything wrong with it either. I do it when I just can't fit all of my stuff -- books, folders, laptop, snacks, plus purse basics like wallet, phone, etc. -- into one big tote. I mean, there is a limit to the size a tote can be. I dont want to end up bringing a suitcase to work. I think it's better to divide into a tote and a handbag.

Imagine a tote huge enough for everything...for some of us it would be as big as a hefty bag! :-)

^^ Why not?

Some of us have to carry more stuff than will fit in a purse, even a big one.

And it is a real pain in the you-know-what to have to drag a great big tote bag full of books, papers, computer, etc. into the grocery store on the way home or into a bar meeting friends after work.

Hence, two bags. The big one with school/work stuff and the "regular" purse.
