I think that the increase in popularity of the skull in clothes and jewelery was also becase of the Pirate of the Carribean movies, as well as the rise in popularity of Ed Hardy. I have a Hello Kitty T-shirt where she has pink crossbones behind her head and on the back it has a girlie skull with a pink bow, as well as 2 Pirate tees and an Ed Hardy one. Also a Harley Davidson one and some Rock band ones; my friends think it's funny 'cuz I'm so "girlie pink", otherwise.

Thank you for all the responses ladies!! So interesting... really enjoyed reading all the responses! Doesn't make me want a skull any more... (or Hello Kitty for that matter!) but was really interesting to hear all of your perspectives!

I immediately thought of Heavy Metal but DH immediately thought of Totenkopf, an image adopted by the Schutzstaffel (SS) :-s. It's something I wasn't aware of myself. Worth thinking about at least...

Thanks Mlle! It was a x-mas present from DH 2 years ago after I HAD to have it! It is sterling and cast from a spider monkey. I've seen pewter ones pop up since then. I can PM you info if you'd like. I also have a Curse of Ezekiel bracelet, similar to Delfina Delettrez but much more affordable. I have quite the collection of macabre bijouterie:p

Y'all are going to laugh when I tell you how I found it...

My DD was 6 at the time, and in Oct. of that year we were spending a rainy Sat on the couch watching movies on the Mouse Channel..We got sucked into a marathon of Halloween High movies and that necklace was featured on the main villianess, along with a ton of other, SUPER COOL jewelry on her and her fellow villians! Poor DD, I stopped the movie at a frame so I could study it, took detailed notes and Googled the h*ll out of it till I sourced it. I must have made a pretty big deal of it, since it was in my stocking in Dec. Since then I've acquired pretty much all of the better pieces from the series.

It is a very good series and I highly recommend it if you like that sort of thing. What I get a kick out of is that for a Disney movie series, it's quite progressive and not "Disney-ish" in the least. Plus, it stars Debbie Reynolds, so how bad can it be?:p

After seeing the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie i wanted a skull pendant/charm. So i had my jeweller make me one in 18 kt white gold. The eyes are ovale, color Fancy Yellow, VS1, 0.36 ct. The teeth plain diamonds i took from a ring i didn't like.
