Buying a Cartier Love Bracelet in the Caribbean

Barbados price check June 2014. It's an official Cartier store. They are not authorised to give discounts BUT if you speak to the manager she MAY be able to give you something off. She did this for me for an order I was placing for an item but could not offer a discount on any item they already had in stock. The prices were a bit less than what was available in the US. I'm sorry but I don't have the quote with me. It's a duty free price so I say you can't lose. Only I'd call in advance as they tend to not have smaller sizes and generally have limited rose gold pieces.

Would you ladies suggest buying in the Caribbean or Europe? Which is cheapest?

^ Caribbean from what I've heard!

I phoned the Barbados store enquiring about the 4-diamond YG Love Bracelet and I was quoted US$10,200 as the Duty Free price. You take the item with you and the store handles all relevant paperwork.

Which other Caribbean destination has it cheaper?

What's the price of that in the US? $10,700? Doesn't seem Barbados is that much cheaper - though, I guess saving on sales tax is huge...but then declaring at the border must eat up all the savings?

Your savings will be $500 plus relevant sales taxes.

In Europe the price is EUR 8500 at an exchage rate of US $1.32 = US$11, 220. If you save around 12% with VAT refund, the price will be around US$9875.

You will have to decide which is the best option for you.

Yeah, I've been studying the prices in France and London, and worked out which is better. Just waiting to see what the price is when we arrive in the Caribbean. I'm looking at watches though so may be priced differently than bracelets. Thanks hadassa.

You're most welcome :smile1: I think depending on which part of the Caribbean you will be visiting, it's quite possible to get a good price on a watch.

Hi everyone! I am new to this site and appreciate all that I have read/learned so far. My 10 year wedding anniversary is coming up in January. I have been eyeing a platinum cartier love bracelet for my wife (or perhaps 2 to stack). It so happens we are going on a cruise in December that will be stopping in St. Martin. I had not really considered buying the anniversary gift on the cruise, but I sounds like it would be silly not to. I would appreciate any information or advice.

I prefer to buy directly from a cartier store. Does any one have any experience at the Cartier store in St. Martin? It sounds like there is around a 5% discount from the US prices. Does this sound right? I have read conflicting things that they may negotiate SOME off of the price. Is this the case? ( I have never considered negotiating at a cartier store (or similar stores) in the states.) Are there better forms of payment to ensure better price?

Also, advice on the actual bracelet. I was considering platinum because most of her jewelry is platinum. Although it looks like I could possibly buy two (gold-white/yellow) for price of one platinum. Or perhaps with diamonds:)

Thanks for any advice. Regards!

How lovely. I am assuming you are stopping on the Dutch side, St. Maarten. You have to ferry over to the shopping. There is a Cartier boutique. I purchased my cuff in November 2013. Price was just about 3-5% less than U.S. Price with no tax. They took another 3% off to offset my cc foreign transaction fee. I didn't get the sense they were amenable to further negotiation. Know your U.S. prices and what your credit card company will charge in foreign transaction fees. I didn't find the selection huge in terms of multiple sizes in the cuffs. I wanted to try one size down which they didn't have. I wanted YG which they didn't have. The Cartier boutique closed on the French side, St. Martin, so stay on the Dutch side. If it is a Sunday, go early and check that you will not be there on a local holiday. Lots of info but I hope it helps.

What a great post this is. . Make sure to look at your itinerary to determine that you will be at that shopping location/destination on a day that the store is open. The reason I mention this is because during a cruise in 2008 or 2009, after looking forward to shopping in Aruba for several months prior, we discovered much to my dismay that we would be in Aruba on Easter Sunday, hence no shopping as everything was closed. Luckily, I was able to get the piece I wanted on another Island at which we stopped prior to stopping in Aruba.

Ps. We have purchased a watch at Cartier in St. Thomas, approx 2008 or 2009 and we received a 10% discount, plus no tax.

Hope this helps

*Bump* Any further intel? I am off to Bahamas in a couple of weeks and interested in buying a Cartier trinity cord bracelet but there is no longer a Cartier store at the Atlantis?

Authorized jeweler John Bull may carry it... Maybe contact them ahead of time and ask? Please let us know how you make out.
