Ya think? Any idea how I would do this? I assume I'd need to report to UK Customs, rather than US, right?

I've already reported him to *bay under the illegal activities section. Actually, I did it twice - once with the first email that asked me to reship the package marked gift & $50 and once with the email about the $3800 truck he didn't pay duties on. Not that they'll do anything about it ....
dont know what happened here...totally confused x
yes it would be uk customs...if you ever get through !!!!

found this, might be of help
www.HMRC.gov.uk or email [email protected]

tel no 02476212860 you have to put UK prefix of course....unless you have endless time, the number is a pain to get through to :p
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your taking the time to find this info for me. I have already linked to the website and I will definitely try to figure it out without having to call. After all, I have to spend all my free time on dictionary.com to decipher my buyer's communiques, so there's little time left over to call UK customs. Thanks again!!!!!

Well, my listing did specify that all customs charges are the responsiblity of the buyer, and that all customs forms would be marked with the full value of the item. Even if I failed to specify that, however, *bay's policy for international shipment states the following:

Customs is a government agency responsible for regulating shipments entering a country or region. All shipments being sent to and from a country or region must clear customs first. The seller needs to provide the correct documentation so that your item won't be held indefinitely by customs. Be prepared to pay fees for customs and/or duties. It is against the law to ask your seller to mark an international product as a gift or for a lesser value.

The seller is never responsible for customs duties. They are always the sole responsibility of the buyer.

O well your in the clear

Thanks for your post! I'm actually starting to enjoy his emails, because at the very least, they crack us all up

BTW ... love your signature quote!
 you can say that again.....my life is so drab, this is the thread i come to...sorry choo-girl....but his mail is very entertaining. Its a shame they have to be directed to you....I wonder what his next letter will have in it  alfie xxx

OMG, choogirl_123, I've just had the exact same situation with a customer of mine but in the US. I wrote a big blurb in my listing and a personal email about duty tax is the responsibility of the winner etc etc but when she was charged duty, all hell broke loose. So I know exactly what you're going through. Words fail me when I'm dealing with individuals like these. It's perfectly obvious that when you buy internationally, there's a chance you will be charged duty tax.

It's obvious the winner of your auction knows it but trying to worm his way out of it.

Yikes! I'm sorry you're having the same problem. It's a pain in the a$$, yes? I mean really - if you don't want to pay the duty, just don't bid! Argh ... hope your situation is resolved soon ;)

Since my buyer refused to take anymore calls from FedEx other than a final note that the package was to be sent back to me, there was little I could do. In addition, she threatened me with a negative feedback if I didn't comply with her demands. I figured I might as well cut my losses. It took me 2 weeks to get the package back and I refunded the funds back minus shipping both ways. To be honest with you, the shipping costs were more than the customs tax!! I struggle to understand the logic behind her decision. *sigh*

That's the part I'm confused by as well. Once I get my package back (assuming I ever get it back) I'll refund purchase price less s&h both ways and *bay FVF. FVF were over $30 (US) and the shipping was $25 (US) one way. I think my buyer was suffering from buyer's remorse and used the customs duty as an excuse. Probably the same story with your buyer, don't you think?

Who pays the return postage??? do you have to pay it???? will you get charged customs when it comes back into the USA???. sorry for the ??? Just interested:p. Oh my life is so drab for fun, i go to the beauty school to be a guinea pig, and have hair pulled out for 1/2 price . Then we make cushions he he

^Those are all really good questions and very worthy of the ??? Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to any of them, so I'm waiting to find out! I have a feeling I'm in for an unpleasant surprise when it comes to return shipping, although I don't think I'd need to pay customs b/c it's MY item (well, technically). I will keep you posted!

As for the beauty school - good stuff!! ;)
