Brands you don't like/don't buy from/find personally to be overrated?

1. Reformation clothing. It all looks like 90's redux. I HAD to wear stuff like this in the early 2000s because I couldn't afford the trendy hot styles... now this IS the trendy hot style (in my age group, anyway).

2. Any Kardashian-affiliated products: Good American, SKIMS, Kylie Cosmetics, etc. I actually like the gals but this is classic vanity project quality.
3. Jacquemus. Don't get it at all.

Actually, anything that Hailey Beiber or Emily Ratajkowski wears I just don't get.

I thought of Michael Kors as tacky, but then I realized that I LOVE some of his dresses. I also think in general that it is a bit tacky to buy brands for its logo or name. Now I do buy well known brands (although mostly with a discrete or small logo). When I was young I wasn't particularly interested in fashion, nor could I afford it. Was I tacky then, when young buying cheap stuff, or now, sometimes wearing clothes that are like wearing a neon sign saying "come rob me"? Aren't we all a bit tacky, caring so much about superficial things like fashion, looks and brands?

To echo posts before me, Hermes and their bags. Also dislike Michael Kors and Kate Spade. Absolutely hate Guess bags and clothing...their vintage denim is fine but otherwise nope. And Zara I cannot stand.

If I was answering this a couple years ago, I also would have included Moschino, and the Balenciaga city bag (used to think it was hideous), but they have both grown on me and I love them lol.

I find that Kate Spade, while their bags are adorable, are poor quality. Their leather feels like plastic.

Hahaha...That pretty much sums it up! ...when we carry or wear luxury items, we unwittingly attract negative attention from criminals. Now that I’m getting older I like to be less obviously “tacky”...truth is I never paid attention to luxury brands and wasn’t aware of many high end brands until I got into luxury. Now, I notice luxury brand items everywhere I go...my radar goes off! The vast majority of people who I cross paths with probably don‘t pay attention to the brand of my handbag, my shoes, etc... It’s people like me and the criminals who are taking note!

Hermes is extremely overrated.

Scarves: Silk is pretty poor quality and are too thin.
Shoes: Extremely poor construction.
Tailoring: They outsource the job to a manufacturer in Italy, whose name I won't mention (their name starts with 'B'). Said manufacturer is okay, but pieces are nothing exceptional.
Hats: They use rabbit felt, which is a pretty cheap material.

I could go on and on - but the point is, Hermes' quality leaves a lot to be desired.

Coach, Michael Kors, Guess - cheap looking, trying hard to be designer. I made the mistake of wearing these brands in my late teens thinking I was all that :P

Canada Goose - I find their jackets to look quite basic and unfashionable

Mulberry, Aspinal of London - old lady bags which are very expensive for their style!

Tesla - bulky and unfashionable. Not a fan of Elon Musk either

Non-luxury cars with all the trimmings - once I saw a convertible Honda with all these extras that would have cost thousands. Personally, I would rather get the basic version or save up for a luxury branded car!

Puma, New Balance, Slazenger - the sportswear equivalent of Michael Kors compared to designer brands.
In my experience the people paying for all the bells and whistles on new Hondas are usually stealth wealth types buying with cash who will spend on personal comfort but don't want to call attention to themselves. They would see leasing or taking out a loan for a luxury car as distasteful and irresponsible.

Other than that I will defend the higher end Coach and MK bags as well as Mulberry and Aspinal as solid value for money. Their designs are subjective but they're generally excellent quality.

Stealth wealth- so true! Also have to agree with Coach....their glovetanned leather, no-logo bags are far superior to “premier” bags costing 10-100x more.

I purchased an Ulla Johnson Philo Pullover second-hand from eBay, the seller swore it had only been worn once and hand-washed once for sale but I was very surprised to see the cotton had bobbled in sections, mainly around the armpits. I gave the seller the benefit of the doubt and believed that she really did only wear it once and carefully handwashed it (but sent it back for a refund anyway). Very curious if other people note similar quality issues with Ulla Johnson because this is a pretty expensive brand.

The craftsmanship of Ulla Johnson is superb the fabric quality is questionable to say the least given the low thread count and weave. Yes I own Ulla Johnson but mostly have given it up purchasing based on the price point and lack of quality fabric.

Hermes bags. I appreciate that the quality is supposedly in a league of it's own but I find the classic handbags so overly simple and boring for what you pay for, just a big rectangle with a handle. I genuinely don't get it. I recently looked at some of their "trendier" bags (Evelyn, Picotin) and I'm sorry but I find them so underwhelming. My least favorite thing of all is perhaps that leather horse keychain, it's horrendous. Maybe it's just my mind convincing myself of this to make me feel better since I can't really afford them anyway
I agree with you about some Hermes bags and accessories but , to me Kelly and mini Plume, are beautiful and well made, just perfection.

That is such a shame because the patterns of the textiles she uses are unlike anything I've ever seen. I had this exact issue with an English designer, Hayley Menzies. Beautiful dress, unique cut but the cotton...I don't even think it was fit for tablecloth. Guess there has to be a profit margin somewhere. Do you have favourite brands you can recommend?

It seems to me to be a sourcing issue which began with the 2008/2009 economic downturn which we've never recovered from. Rebecca Taylor, Alice and Olivia, Anjuna and Erdem (which I love but given the cost compared to the quality of the material??!!! some times it's nice)

These are the brands, I've purchased which had quality materials:
Antik Batik, SeaNY, Zimmerman (silks), Batsheva, Adam Lippes and Ivan Grundahl(not sure what happened to him)
