Chanel leans a little old for me at this stage in my life.
I find a lot of Versace tacky.
MK bores me
How is Versace still on the market? I do love some of MK, primarily because it's long enough and the stretch of the flagship RTR collectors works for shaping well to any silhouette. What has gone a bit too far is the flared legs...the bootcut doubleface trousers he's had for years were the best IMHO.

For clothes I usually don't buy very expensive brands - I prefer to invest in nice accessoires such as bags or jewelery instead of very expensive clothes.

From the medium expensive brands I especially don't like Sandro and Maje. They have very cute pieces, but the pieces I have are very poor quality (bad seaming, nearly always) and low quality material. I get drawn to them as they really have many clothes which fit my style and body, but after 2-3 pieces I have learned not to buy and look at their stuff anymore.

Then there is Adidas, especially the Stella McCartney Collection: the pieces are usually very very tiny, so that they are even to small for me (I am tiny, 5"2' and 48 kg), but simultanously too long on body and arms. I mean what do they think how people look like?! And the regular Adidas stuff has jackets which are too short with too long arms with really ill fitting pants (sports pants).
You are so right on this The quality is soo bad with maje & Sandro sometimes the stuff in the shop looks beaten up already

Another brand which I don’t think is good quality is the Kooples & what a smug concept!

No 1. Celine is just sinking like the titanic. HS is the reverse Midas of fashion & I don’t know why brands don’t see it.

2. I think buying stuff on wish & shein & the like is a bit irresponsible.

3. I HATE the cycling shorts trend with a blazing ire & I think Chanel have a lot of explaining to do for this…

Chanel is Chanel but their bag quality seems to be all over the place & their clothing is truly going through the wilderness years IMHO.

4. I liked Gucci but James corden in the new ads is a hard pass for me.

5. Supreme & off white is just awful & I think that there’s a lot of good brands in the streetwear niche (kapital, A Cold wall) who get gobbled up by the hypebeasts

6. I go through phases with designer monogram prints but I don’t see myself ever being super into LV again.

In my experience the people paying for all the bells and whistles on new Hondas are usually stealth wealth types buying with cash who will spend on personal comfort but don't want to call attention to themselves. They would see leasing or taking out a loan for a luxury car as distasteful and irresponsible.

Other than that I will defend the higher end Coach and MK bags as well as Mulberry and Aspinal as solid value for money. Their designs are subjective but they're generally excellent quality.
I completely agree that I think MK & Coach get a bad rep when a lot of their stuff is well designed and/or well made.

Aspinal is a bit elaborate for me but I think they seem good quality & they are good value- they sort of have to be cheaper as they don’t have the brand recognition.

mulberry - I’m not sure they are that good value anymore  & they’ve had their dark days but they definitely used to be the it girl and perhaps they will make a comeback

This thread is for me, because I don't like most brands.

I don't like anything with logos. I'm not interested in being anyone's billboard. LV, Fendi, and Gucci are the obvious ones for bags, and the idea of making a bag from fabric, coating it with plastic and then charging several thousand for it makes no sense to me. I also don't like logos on clothing either, like Vetements and Supreme (really hate Supreme, which was popular with my age group a few years ago (20s)).

I don't like anything from Chanel or Dior. Chanel is too old lady for me, and Dior is boring.

I hate it when designers try to come up with sporty sneakers (those Balenciaga ones are a big WTF for me). I also don't get the idea of costume jewelry at all. Spending multiple hundreds on a little bit of brass that's plated with a thin layer of gold isn't worth it to me.

I've been into fashion for a while, and for the last few years I've been improving skills like sewing, crocheting and knitting so that I can make my own clothes. I've found that the more you spend time on designing and making your own things, the better you are able to recognize quality when you shop. I recently discovered a red Chanel bag from the 2014 cruise line which is crocheted. I was FLOORED that a bag like this could have an asking price of 8k - 11k CAD. This bag looked like it was made from t-shirt yarn, and the stitch was single crochet. A bag like that would take me an hour max to make. For the asking price, you would expect some kind of incredible craftsmanship and design. Something only a master would be able to make, with complex stitches and expensive materials. This bag looked like a beginner's crochet project. Celine also made a white crocheted dress, and the asking price for that was 7k CAD I think. It was made from white cotton, and the pattern was very simple. For this price, you'd expect the yarn should be silk, and the pattern far more intricate. Seeing such things just makes me think most designer items are a big ripoff and not worth the money.

Here is what I do like. I know Coach gets hated on, but I love their vintage bags. I only have 2 bags, and both are Coach from the 90s. One is newer to me, and one is old. The old one I've used the crap out of, and it still looks perfect. For jeans, I don't go for designer. I pick Japanese raw denim which is repairable and lasts much longer than any pre-washed/pre-distressed jeans (I like the brand Naked & Famous). I also like Red Wing boots, because those are repairable, look beautiful even after lots of wear, and the style suits me.

I personally think designers today are riding on the image they had created many decades ago-- an image of catering to a rich clientele and selling them beautiful items which were bespoke and high quality and made by skilled people. Reading Dana Thomas' book Deluxe only confirmed that for me-- that most of the designer items sold in stores these days are mass-produced. That said, I do love watching unboxings on youtube, and admiring other people's collections, even though I have no desire to purchase these things for myself.

Two big ones I forgot to mention is; I actually find Alexander Mcqueen a big morbid given what happened to him. Especially all the focus on skulls and stuff. A lot of it looks really cool but I still find it disconcerting.

I also felt the same way about Kate Spade (though admittedly she has very different branding) but then I recently bought a KS enamelled bracelet from a charity eBay account so I’d like to think that balances out.

Well said, I'm really T-I-R-E-D of all the sheer cotton that everyone is charging and arm and leg for. The stiching is quality but the thread counts are horrid. I've shifted to Mango as an option for decent cotton dresses and love it along with a VERY reasonable price point.

Regarding sewing, I have sewn my own clothes....the drawback currently is the best fabric shops have closed in my area, my selection has plummeted.

Corden and Gucci is beyond ironic.

So is their hideous mini 'zine' mail out which is 'Hosted by James Corden' 'SHOWguide' for their 'Beloved' show special issue (Beloved is Gucci's word for 'classic') that takes the form of a TV/Soap/Celeb gossip rag .

Not funny, not clever and not postmodern, just cheap and boring, trying to fool everyone it's arty :sleepy:

I did like their pull-out page of stickers though

Brands I don’t like:

I haven’t liked Prada RTW or bags or Gucci RTW since perhaps the 1990s Or early 2000s.

On The low end, even when I was slim and younger, I never understood Forever 21. Back then I liked H&M, and a graphite metallic H&M cardigan that I still own is a dead ringer for Brunello cuchinelli s regular metallic sweater collection.

brands I don’t buy from:

Hugo Boss. It’s my understanding that they supplied uniforms to the Nazis in WWII.
althoguh chanel was a nazi sympathizer, the wertheimer s regained control of the company and deemed it both charitable and good business to forgive her and they supported her for the rest of her life.

somehow uniqlo doesnt really work for me, but my mom, my family and friends all love it. I’m sure I’m missing something.

I no longer buy Versace Bc I’m older. I did buy quite a bit of Versace and cavalli when I was younger

brands I find overrated:

Louis Vuitton. I’m not against coated canvas per se bc I calculate cost per wear, but the only LV that I’ve kept in my collection is the original black and white Stephen sprouse for LV called the long or knitting needle alma. I thought LV RTW by Marc Jacobs was cute, but think LV RTW a in general is overrated.

I never understood all the hype re Stella Macartneys RTW line. Or Lanvin. Or Celine. Or Anya Hindemarch. I guess this would fall into the rich young londoner type of shopping? None of that works for my lifestyle.

I also have one piece of VCA, a six motif GMOP Alhambra magic necklace, but I find some of their designs (even ones I adore) somewhat overpriced and overrated. However, I do love other VCA designs and I adore seeing the combinations on the VCA forum.

louboutin, Jimmy choo lasts don’t fit my feet.

Vince. For what it is, it’s overpriced.

I do like and buy Chanel RTW, primarily knitwear, as I have enough jackets from years back (arguably their current jackets, for the money, are vastly overrated), and they are still very expensive on sale.

brand that have relatively good deals and fun items:

dior RTW is fun and their technical taffeta, aka, synthetic, is hard wearing. Brunello cuchinelli RTW, though exceedingly expensive. makes great pants and outerwear. and, Hermes cashmere silk knits are, only relative to other premier designers, well priced and well made.

I gave Alessandra Rich a chance because I loved the soft draping and clean lines of her dresses. I just can't justify the price point however, given the quality of the silk. Also I'm not sure why her dresses have shoulder pads??? I'm going to remove mine and while I've almost splurged for another, I realized I shouldn't bother.
