My god. I wanna lick my handphone screen (ok that's quite sick but you get the gist of it). They are beautiful beyond abc. I haven't really dug into docrides method. Any summary? :)

LOL!!!! Hilarious! Summary of Doc's method

Condition with Blackrocks leather and rich (rest 24 hours between coatings)
Once conditioned use color cream polish (I used saphir Rouge Hermes) to even out color. Buff and shine.
Corner touch ups special dye

I detailed my refurbishment here - Post #21

Hi there, wanna have some advice. Just see a 1972 Kelly navy blue box leather on collector square, really tempted to get my first Kelly. But,first time buyer, wonder about the box leather conditions after 40+ years. The product descriptions say it is in good condition. It looks fine in the picture too....

Any tips for getting a vintage Kelly? Collector square guarantee and certified it is authentic, I assume that I can send it to Hermes to refurbish (spa treatment)? Tips pls....

So I did run with the bag.

Here is Mdm 1962 (R stamp). Size 32. What had been done :
1/ leather cleaned and preserved
2/ metal hw replaced with brand new
3/ new double loop handle and new strap also in box calf
4/ the lock is old but craftsman gave her special leather bound. New box clochette/keys
5/ new dustbags

Interior as expected is not restored. Have marks but no tear. Some areas around the flap I shall DIY-condition to give some moisture. Years down the road I will send her for H spa once more. She deserves TLC after working hard for 54 years.

Did u send back to H for replacing the metal hw? How much time it took? I am considering a vintage 1972 Kelly box, but not sure how to maintain it ...

Hopefully this works. It is from 1982 and as I look closely at the grain, I am starting to wonder whether H embossed this. That may account for the slightly strange feel too. There is no evidence of a coating, seams are clean and there is no over-spray or masking. The texture is smooth and very consistent and running horizontally across the bag. K is left HAC is right

From left to right, first photo is box from 1982, which is the same year and it shows similar uniform "grain lines" as your Kelly. There is no sign of dryness or cracking, and the overall feel of it is smooth. The lines aren't really true grain, rather visible than actually felt. Middle photo is 2001 box, overall smooth, if you look closely, there is faint lines, but barely there and nothing compared to the 1982 box. Last photo on the right, current box from wallet, smoothest of them all, but thinner in comparison, has a very very slight iridescent-like sheen.

Here's the BBK 35 from the 80's and finally my Raison Dalvy from the 90's

I can only drool and admire all your Rouge H treasures, haven't been able to get my hands on any of the older Rouge H box leather as the newer ones all have brown undertones. And your Dalvy has been permanently ingrained in my mind. Honestly, every so often I would see one that comes up on eBay or Heritage, I immediately think of your raisin beauty.

Thanks so much! That confirms for me that the lines are inherent to manufacturing during the early 80's, or at least 1982!

Hihi. Yes it was a major restoration (bill is also major). Hardware all changed except feet and inside zip. Took a year.

I'm hoping to seek docrides method to further condition my 1962.

Any pic of your 1972 that you're eyeing on? I like to see:)
