I don't know, but I have forwarded the question to Nicole at BV.

jburgh - here is the answer from Nicole on the tie dye--

The Tie Dye Cabat has tubular fettucce- the fetucce strip is seamed on one
side while it is folded inside-out, then turned right side out for a
tubular effect.

This thread is outstanding as it is informative.. labor intensive details

and just extraordinary bags.. as a owner of the San Marco karung I really

really appreciate all the work that goes into this bag but all the BV bags

Thanks for posting all the pics..

Excellent thread. I love these handwoven bag pieces that makes each one just that much more special. I knew that they were hand woven, but I had no idea how they managed to do that. Makes sense with a frame. But yes absolutely lovely!

This is such a fabulous thread!

I'm a relative newbie to BV who's admired their craftmanship for years - but, even then, I had no idea as to the extent of work and thought that goes into the different weaves. Just amazing!

Thanks! I bet it is hard as he** to turn those tubes right side out.

^ I was just thinking the same thing. It would be hard enough doing it with fabric that size, I can't fathom doing it with leather. I think that explains the extra cost of the tie dye right there!

Another treatment that BV does is handpainting. Seems like 2008/2009 was a big year for these beautiful touches. Here are some examples of this:

Pekary - a perforated treatment that mimics the look of the leather from a Pecari or Peccary or Javelina. This is a small pig like animal from South and Central America:

This bag, the Cervo Hobo from S/S 2010 illustrates the pattern well (pics from Neiman Marcus):

Aquilone bag S/S 2010 - Info from doloresmia/bv.luxury:

The "Aquilone" bag [a new interpretation from FW 2004-2005] Aquilone means kite. this is bigger than the original one.

This model has 4 large panels folded to create volume and shape has a classic handmade braid shoulder strap. Superlight is a new material made from our traditional BV nappa. Process is very long and delicate. Work is done on a Paille colored base [selected for its neutral, pleasant tone]. This can only be done by specialized artisans, who are very rare [in fact all passages are by hand]

First, the leather is folded in a random way and each skin in pressed. When all skins are ready, they are dyed in one of three fashion colors. Once dry, each skin is opened manually and ironed again. The final effect is two-tone with a soft shade between the colors

Leave it to BV.. a tremendous amount of time is put into these bags and thus

reflects top notch detail.. just extraordinary.. and the more we all learn about

the "construction of a bag" the more it fascinates me..labor intensive for sure..
