Bottega Veneta - Why is it. Not so popular?

I’ve tried REALLY hard to like BV, but it just doesn’t do it for me. The dull hardware is off-putting.

That said, my BFF has this cross-body (pictured below in gold) in an understated bronze-y metallic that goes between gunmetal & brownish depending upon what she wears. It’s the coolest bag! Perfect for travel.

I would buy her bag in the same color as her’s, the one pictured in gold, and the attached hobo. I actually saw this on eBay for $398, but dragged my feet and it sold[emoji26]View attachment 4137576View attachment 4137577

Their metallic leathers are amazing, I hope you win next time something like it comes around.

I don't find myself liking the hw either, I think I just prefer most BVs without hardware.

I don't own any BV, but I agree about the metallics especially, from what I've seen here. ksuromax's () silver metallic Cabat is a DREAM  and a Cabat is on my wish list.

I also really like the under the radar/subtle aspect of this brand. Many of the BV designs "speak" for themselves, just like the Bal City. Which is just something I prefer.

I think it’s fairly popular, as I see a lot of it in my city. It wasn’t on my radar for a while, but I recently developed an appreciation for it and would love to have a few in my collection. The leather is amazing and many of the bags are timeless and beautiful. There are a few that I’d say are misses, but I think that about almost every brand.

To the extent it isn’t as popular as some other brands, I frankly think that a lot of people want logos and bags that scream their luxury status, which BV bags don’t do. I don’t want that, so I like BV (and Celine, The Row etc.), and dislike the big logo brands like LV, Chanel, and Saint Laurent (lately, anyway—YSL used to be more interesting IMHO). I think there are a decent number of us who share this view, but we are probably the minority, and our bags may be getting a little lost amidst all the logos and flash :).

I will say that, for a while, I thought BV was just frumpy. They’ve been doing more structured bags recently, and these new designs are what drew me to the brand. I’m posting a picture of my recent, first BV purchase. I love the modern shape, and the creative nod to the well-known Knot.

I agree with a few others whom said its the logo thing. Also the resale value is low, which makes a diffrence for those who like to wash/repeat. However, resale value is very low for Gucci and they are riding a mainstream high right now, so I guess resale may not be a real factor here.

But I definitely wouldn't go as far to say BV is not a popular bag. Imo, they are very popular among a certain subset of luxury bag connoisseurs. To me....the BV bag is more for the not so "common" gal who doesn't chase trends.

Also, just for the record... I have inspected other "woven" bags and have yet to find the same quality as a BV bag.

Best quality/leather/colour saturation/craftsmanship imo
i have a few dozens of BV, bags and SLGs, footwear and silver jewelery, woven, smooth, small and big, nappa, cow, cervo, some i got brand new, some found pre-loved...
i don't know why they are not popular, to me BV is the best!

I love BV! Your collection is amazing. I really need a large hobo. I just bought a card case in Paris a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t be happier with the quality. It’s so soft! I’m glad you enjoy your lovely collection.

I have recently fallen in love with BV. A client came in with a soft grey, super drapey, smooshy bag. I was awe struck. The next month she came in again and I asked her who made it. She said BV. They had never been on my radar I think because they look a bit dull until they are on a person. I walk past the shop in SF all the time and have never felt the urge to go in. I ordered this beautiful bag, the grey one, and fell in love. It is the Cervo Medium Shoulder bag. I don't recall the name of the color however it is a soft, dove grey. I am really tired of LV. For years I loved it but I got so tired of seeing every teenage girl with a speedy and the terrible knock offs. I wanted something truly artisan. I craved something beautifully made, elegant and understated. BV fits the bill. Then I bought the Large Veneta in Camel second hand. I LOVE it. I actually prefer second hand bags because they are broken in. It is from 2007 and just so light and easy to carry. BV on a person looks like a beautiful after thought, not like they are trying to show off or are carry a statement bag. A BV tossed over a shoulder looks effortless and chic. My next bag was a Cervo hobo in Elephant. My eye now is on the Lauren Clutch in Gigelo Red. I am really not a clutch person and live a very casual life style so I think it would be a bad decision. I hope as they begin to show up second hand that I can find one. I sold 5 LV to fashionphile and got great prices for them. I am done with LV. It's just over the top and that is not me anymore. I am keeping my speedy B in Mono for traveling. I do love the Speedy. I am also becoming a Tod's fan and got the Joy bag in cognac this past year. I see my tastes turning to more simple lines, better materials and superior craftsmanship. I really enjoy this forum. Everyone is so kind and supportive. It's been really fun to read all your thoughts. The great thing about BV is how the bags tend to look better with age. So, in sum, my two cents on the popularity or lack there of issue, is that on the shelf a BV looks a little meh. On a person it shines and as it ages it really shines...

For me the only downside is the price, as I love how some of the styles look, and the quality. So far I only have the Aquilone hobo from a few years back, and I was pleasantly surprised by how durable the bag is, as it's really soft. Its lightness is also a plus; the resale may be a drawback for some, but it'd help me when I scour the secondary market for these.

I totally agree. If one can be patient (as I am trying to be about the clutch) our desired bag often turns up. Second hand the price is really good. I love that no one really knows what BV is or how much it costs. I have often felt self conscious of that with flashier bags. It just looks like a beautiful, well made bag. I do NOT want anyone to know how much I spend on things. I buy beautiful things really because they give me joy and pleasure using and appreciating them.
